Default 5906 mag problem

I have found that older 5906 mags will not lock into the newer 5906/5903 guns. The hole for the mag catch looks smaller and there is only one hole, not two like on the newer mags. Anyone else have this trouble? Joe in GA

The two hole mags were for guns switched to left hand mag releases, so the one hole mags won't work in them. All factory S&W mags should work and lock in. One problem that might cause it is where original medal basepad mags have had the plastic basepads installed.

On the S&W mag tubes the bottoms fold in, the medal pads slid above the lips. The plastic ones have a slot that slides into the bottom lips. It sounds like you might have a aftermarket mag.

These that wont lock in are the older factory ones. I think the prob may be with the 5903's mag catch. The LEO marked 15 rounder that came with it works fine. I took the base plates off the problem ones and they still wouldnt lock in place. I do have a 20 round Meg-gar that does lock in. I like a good mystery......

Got out the old Dremel tool and made the mag catch hole a little larger on the bottom of it....function tested it, and it works fine now. Still odd I think...
