Default Opinions On A 469, Please

Hey all.

I am interested in a blued 469 and I am wondering how good of a gun it is.

Price is good and comes with 4 mags. Seems to be in good shape according to pictures posted.

I carry a 669 (stainless) every day. I like it. Not too heavy, holds 12+1, very reliable I've had very few problems with mine. Some will say accuracy suffers from a 3.5" barrel. I get servicable accuracy from mine

My brother bought his years ago and can shoot the daylights out of it. He's a big guy with goodsized hands and likes the size of the double stack butt. I've been thinking about getting one too!

Yep, 469 is still my favorite S&W auto . Carried mine briefly on duty and off in the mid/late '80s. Good little guns ...

I just bought one last week and have been very pleasently suprised. Excellent feel and quite accurate...I paid $325 for gun and two mags in good condition. Super smooth action, no hiccups and I'm a happy camper.

I was living in Anchorage, Ak when the Mini Gun first came out. I fell in love with it immediately, and bought the first one that came available - an early production example.
BTW - mine was purchased from JC Penney's in Anchorage, they had a fantastic gun counter back then.
Years later, when I moved to WA and got my first CCW license, this was my first carry auto, and it was a great little gun.
Wish, like others, we could turn back the clock, in a brilliant move I traded it in on a later M6904, a good little gun, but I never bonded with it like the M469.

Oh well.

The 469 is a great pistol that seems to have fallen off a lot of peoples radar...I know it did mine. Because of that, prices are pretty reasonable.
I wanted one when they came out, but couldn't afford it.
I got mine at a recent gun show for $300 OTD. I have not shot it yet, but I have a feeling I will like it just fine...It seems to feed very smoothly with snap caps.

Default 469-Safety Recall in 1986

I also got a 469 last fall. Since there are a couple of current posts on the 469 from new owners this might be helpful to you all. I found this recall from back in 1986 regarding the inability of some weapons to engage safety if the hammer is in the half cock position.

Here is the link to the recall website.

Firearm Recalls and Warnings Index on FirearmsID.com

While it has not affected the operation of mine, I am waiting on a response from S &W to see if they will still honor the recall and fix it.

Mine exhibits the described problem, but I am not sure I will do anything about it. I don't see myself putting it on safe at halfcock.
My initial impression of the 469 is that S&W could have made the grip a little thinner and smaller in circumference. My all time favorite 9mm is the Browning HiPower, which feels positively svelte by comparison. Nothing I won't get used to, just an initial impression without having shot it yet.

Default safety recall

amd6547,
I don't see a lot of use in that fashion either, and have put off asking the warranty center about it until today. But they did say S & W would fix it. So I will send it off to be repaired, as you never know.
It does shoot well and for me the length of grip is what I like, some others being too short.

It's impossible to make an aluminum frame as thin as a steel one.

And, the 'open backstrap' design of the 469 means it has to be covered by the grip, which is also thicker than steel.

Just about everybody, big hands or small, seems to think the Hi-Power has the 'perfect' grip.

It was designed as a military pistol, and was the first 'high capacity' 9mm. J. M. Browning was a true visionary!

It's a pity that J. M. Browning didn't live long enough to design a 'compact' High Power!

Frankly, I have no problem whatsoever using my HiPower for CCW. I use a clip-on IWB holster, and can conceal just about any time of year.

Hi Smithnut,
Sorta funny...I bonded a 6904 Slide&Barrel assembly onto
one of my 469 frame to improve on the sight picture.

Take care and be safe.

I've had one for some years and love it except for the front sight that is machined out of the slide.
Accurate, great trigger and after thousands of rounds not a single malfunction.
