Default S&W 22A 7 inch

How well do these pistols stand up to heavy long term use? 5000+ rounds, say? Anything that can wear out or break?

I have a 22A Talo with 5 1/2" and probably somewhere in the 5000 plus rounds fired and still working great , so I think they're holding up real good .

I have one and like it, but it comes up short in the durability department.
I have had to replace quite a few small parts on mine.
They don't compare well to a MKii internally.
They shoot as well tho.
Mine got pushed to the back of the gun safe, got tired of messing with it when I have other stuff to shoot that is trouble free.
I recommend the gun but not for someone that shoots many thousands of rounds a year.

I have a relatively new 5-1/2" 22A-1 Talo that has seen about 2,000 rounds without any thing beyond adjusting the trigger stop done to it. I'm sure you're looking for more long-term info but that's all I can offer.

I've wanted to ask before - you aren't by any chance the Ken Waters of 7-30 Waters fame, are you?

Ed

I had a 22a I bought to allow novice friends to try out the local range. We put quite a few rounds through it and frame failed one night while my brother was using it. Back end under slide dangling. It was crazy. Assumed ammo was bad but S&W ended up giving me new frame. I was impressed with their service.

Well, there you go, Kenneth . No worries about shooting thousands of rounds through your 22A when you have S&W to stand behind their product.
I also own a 22A Talo that had to go back for a broken sight bridge pin at around the 2K round mark but, other than that it has been very reliable. I'll report back if and when I exceed the 10K round mark.
I should add that you should check the condition of your recoil buffer often. Shooting HV ammo will cause it to deteriorate at a faster rate than standard velocity ammo. Not replacing the buffer when damaged will cause frame battering by the bolt and possible damage to both. So, keep an eye on the buffer for longer life of your 22A.

I've easily put 3k uneventful rounds through it since frame replaced. Almost exclusively CCI mini mags.
