Default Model 5906AS rear sight shroud is loose...

I have a Model 5906AS in 9mm with adjustable three dot sights I purchased new in the early 1990's.

The rear sight is held in what I would call a stainless steel shroud to protect the black rear sight body and sight blade. Today I noticed that this shroud can be moved side to side a small amount.

Does anyone know how this shroud attaches to the slide?

I presume there is a screw holding the shroud in place on the slide that has come loose. It appears I would have to drift out the pin holding the rear sight body to gain access to the shroud.

The shroud is screwed down to the top of the slide. The rear sight hinges on the front pins that can be pushed in to release the sight lever. There are several spring loaded detents so be careful when you remove or you can easily loose them.

handgunner356:

Thanks for the info.

My 5906 was always more accurate than one would expect from a production double action pistol. Years ago it began to shoot much less accurately. I've assumed all along that it was the bullet and load combinations I was using as my preferred bullet went out of production. Last night I just happened to notice the sight base moved. I wonder how long its been loose? Once I get it tight again I'll be anxious to see if the accuracy returns.

Regards...
