My newly acquired 1086 with my FBI 1076
Just picked up this 1086 at a local pawn shop. Price wasn't a huge bargain but $500 for this low production 10 mm seemed really good to me. Plus I wanted it to go to someone who knew what they had and not some goober who just thought it looked cool, which it does. Anyway, anybody have any opinions about the black trigger and hammer. From what I have heard they may not be original to this pistol. The rear sight look sfactory but it is slight different then the one I find on my 1076. Anyway, can't wait to shoot it. Enjoy the pics.

Beautiful pistols, I just got a S&W 1076 today myself.
They look factory to me, I have heard on their later production models they blacked them.

The rear sight on your 1086 looks like the factory night sights on a couple 1076s I've owned.
I don't know if the black trigger and hammer are original to your gun, but I did call S&W about the black hammers and triggers several years ago. I wondered why they changed from the hard chrome. The person I spoke with indicated that hard chroming those components created such a hazardous waste/EPA situation that they went with the black ones in later production to eliminate the problem.

dacoontz,nice score,your killing me.My search for a 1086 and a 1046 goes on.I thought I read some where the performance center used black triggers when a pistol was sent back for a trigger related issue.Can`t prove it and memory plays tricks sometimes.

Grips for the 1086 and 1076
Dacoontz,
I see you like the curved backstrap grips.
Just as a note:
The 1086 did not use the same curved backstrap grips as the 1076.
They shared the same grips as the 1006, 1046, 1066, 4506 and 4566;
p/n - 203590000 - Curved Grip
p/n - 203620000 - Straight Grip
The 1026, 1076, 4526 and 4576 used;
p/n - 203630000 - Curved Grip
p/n - 203650000 - Straight Grip
I'm sure there others in the lists that I missed.
Regards,
BM1

Dave, I got lucky finding this one in a pawn shop that had about 8 guns total for sale. If I happen upon another one then I promise to let you know.
BM1, I do like the curved grip. I grabbed about 8 of them from a wholesale exporter and have been trying to sell them in the classifieds section. I sold about 5 of them between here and E-bay and have put the extras on all my 10 mm and 45 cal 3rd generation guns. I still have the straight back grips but these feel a lot better in my hands. They have the cutout for the frame mounted decocker but they seem to fit fine on my 1086 and 4567.
Wheelgun1958, I have another set I would be willing to part with if you are interested. Let me know and I would even be willing to let you send them back to me if they don't fit. Send me a PM if you want to work out a deal.

1086 for sale
There are two 1086's for sale in the classifieds section of this forum.
http://smith-wessonforum.com/guns-sa...e-reduced.html
They are not my guns, I am in no way connected with the seller and do not stand to profit from the sale of these firearms.

That is a nice set of 10mm's in great shape. Let us know how you like the DAO trigger with the 10mm round. Some people love the S&W DAO trigger and others don't. I am still undecided, as I have only fired a few DAO 3rd gens, but not enough to make a solid conclusion.

I will probably shoot it this weekend and I will give a report. To me the only reason to have this gun is to collect or shoot. It is probably one of the most impractical guns to carry because it has no safety, it's heavy, it's large, and there is no fast way to fire it unless it is already cocked which would be a bad idea to carry in that position. But I don't care because I just love how these 10 mm's look. In my young whipper snapper opinion I would almost say that they look as good as some of the 1920's barbecue M&P's that you see out there. And I know because I have one of those, but my 1076 was the first Smith that I bought with my own cash becuase I loved the way it looked. Then I shot it and was hooked for life.
