If you have not seen our new Forum Moderator's photo album named "Blued 59 Series" I would recommend you go do so right now. It is a very well rounded and beautiful collection of, well, blued 59 series Smiths. His integral railed 5946 is especially impressive.

After I made light of your user name (revolver name but the moderator of a semi-auto forum) I felt like I should mention that you indeed seem to be an aficionado of the Smith auto as well. Kudos to you sir on a fine collection.

Also a quick question; does a 2nd Gen 59 series slide have to be fitted to a 3rd gen frame? Or does it just match right up? I saw yours and it made me curious.

Thanks.

Thanks mlk18. I'm glad you like the album.

I love the Model 19 and found this forum because of questions I had about them but, my first handgun was a 459. To me there's nothing like a 59 series pistol, especially the blued ones.

From what I have been able to tell, except for the early DAOs, the 2nd and 3rd gen slides are interchangeable. I'm not sure about the frame mounted decockers, I haven't checked.

You're talking about the 9x21mm that has a 2nd gen slide? I have to get that lettered soon. There are four labels on the box and I'd really love to know where it has been. At first I thought it was just an early (transitional) 5904 but it's not. Maybe S&W just had left over 2nd gen barrels chambered in 9x21 from earlier 459 orders that they used up. Questions I will get answers for sometime...

I have read several times about how the 2nd Gen 59's with a barrel busing seem to be more accurate than the 3rd Gens. Started making me wonder if I could just pick up a 459 slide and but it on a 5904 frame. I see complete slides X59 slides sell on GB with some regularity.

I can't believe you haven't already sent off for a letter! I look forward to hearing all about it when you do.

3rd gens have a barrel bushing, it just isn't a separate piece like an x59. I wonder if you could tell a difference in the accuracy. I know both the 5904 and 459 are more accurate than I am...
