Went to the range today to test drive my new-to-me 625-6 (awesome!) and walked out with a 422. 4", 1 mag, blue is in great shape, stock in great shape. No box/papers.

I paid $318 OTD. I hadn't been looking for one so didn't really have a price reference to go by....did I do okay? I'm thinking I may have overpaid by $50ish.

Even is that's true, I think this will be a nice add to my S&W .22 collection that now consists of a 17, 34, 41 and 422.

Can you overpay for a Smith that you want? Especially one that is out of production? I don't think so. I have seen 422's sell from $250 to almost $400. And the lower end of that spectrum did not include shipping or FFL fees, so I think $318 OTD is a good price. Congrats on your purchase.

Have you shot it yet? If not, you'll stop asking the question when you do. For the life of me, I can't figure out why this model doesn't have a larger following. I think they're a fine gun.

well...I did shoot it. Not seriously, but a couple mags through it fairly quickly.

I was not impressed with the accuracy. At 10 yards I had 4-5" groups. I'll need to spend some time getting to know this one I think.

The M422 I had was pretty accurate, for a lightweight, inexpensive handgun. It would hold 2-3" at 25 yards, off of a rest.

Many times, changing the brand of ammo will make a BIG difference in a .22 LR firearm.

I have both the 422 and 2214. Before anyone can say that a gun is inaccurate, you need to sight it in first. You can adjust the rear sight left or right. If you have a steady hand good eye sight and Remington Viper 36gr. Truncated Cone - 2 inch group at 15yds. easy. Either pistol. No you did not over pay. Enjoy.

It is a fair price.

I paid just under 300 for a really nice, clean example. I have tried a dozen loads in mine just to see what it liked. It functioned with all but the most accurate was the CCI MiniMag. Standard velocity stuff shoots way high, though.

You do have to find what it likes.

I came close to buying one last week at Larry's in Huntsville AL. Used but in like new condition with box and papers for $299. I ended up buying a 22A for $199 (which is what I went in for). If I could have afforded two, I would have left with the 422 also.

Mine will do that easily with most any brand of ammo, and much better with the stuff it likes best. I bought mine a year ago ( it's the second one I have owned) for $300 including both magazines and the original box all in like new condition. I just found one locally for my next dor neighbor for $320 w/o box or extra mag. He is a very happy camper too. Both of ours are 6" guns.

You did fine on the price if you ask me.

Probably not for a 4" which I don't see very often.

I got a 6" a lot less than that at the local gun shop. It will make you sick.
I could have bought another 622 6" for $225 OTD but have to drive 4 hours round pick to pick it up or pay $80 for shipping+FFL.

These 422, 622, 2206, 2213, 2214 guns have couple couple of minor problems one is there is not a barrel nut wrench and easy to break firing pins when dry fired.

Your accuracy will go out the door if barrel nut works loose or not reinstalled tight. Over on Rim-fire Central we have a guy that has made a wrench for us that's $25 delivered and is going to make spare firing pins for us also.

These guns in 6" adjustable sight models will shoot with 22A and a stock 41 5" barrel at the plinking range. It will out shoot stock Ruger 22's with bull barrels and adj sights and be more reliable while doing it. My 2206 below, the gun is very, very accurate after barrel nut wrench used.

I just sold my buddy a lnib 422,4 inch,wood grips,2 mags for 350.00 and a box of 550 ammo for 25.00 bucks,hope my price was fair.I sold it because he wanted a light weight 22 for his kids to learn and shoot..I have another 422 lnib so I let one go,

Maybe that's been my problem ... I've had a number of X22s in a variety of flavors (that grip just feels NICE!) over the years and every one of 'em would have had trouble hitting the broad side of a barn. From the inside. It didn't matter what kind of ammo I fed 'em, either.

Hmmm. Maybe it's time to rethink.....

I went into a LGS early last year and they had a really nice 2214, no box or accessories. I think the staff there just wanted to get rid of it as I knocked them down to $170 OTD.

It shoots really great and mine seems to like the CCI Standard Velocity ammo best.
