Default M41 factory repair

I've had my M41 since the early 1970's. Recently I bought a 7" barrel for it that, when used, the gun would fail to eject every 5 round magazine. S&W was very fair with the return shipping and yesterday I got a letter detailing the cost to tune and fit the new barrel. Once again I feel they are being very fair with me.
I'll call them tomorrow with my CC# and give them the go ahead. I'm very anxious to shoot this gun again. My question is how successful have folks been sending M41's with problems in to S&W.
Thanks!
JLK

I have a 1993 model that has been back twice for unrelated issues. Both times they repaired it no charge, once they replaced the entire barrel. My only cost was the shipping to them. I thought that was very fair, considering the age of the 41 and that I was not the original owner.

Please let us know how this problem was resolved, and how the 41 shot after you get back. Jerry

My original 7" barrel on a 1960's M41 worked perfectly. I replaced it with a Clark 5.5", and it will fail to eject often until warmed up, then less often.
Clark told me to oil the top round in every other magazine with FP-10. Since doing that, works perfect, every time.

A quick update on my M41 factory repair.
I had the gunsmith that worked on it at the factory
call me today!
Talk about a nice touch!
I really appreciated being able to talk to him.
Said most of the work done to it was on the slide and breech face. Also replaced the followers in two of the three magazines I sent in with the pistol. I knew they needed it and appreciated him tuning them up as well.
He also told me that the gun was now tuned for and needed to shoot CCI SV. I told him I'd shoot whatever they recommended to make it work.
So...
I should have the gun back next week.
I'll be sure to keep everyone up to date on how it runs.
So far sending it "home" for service has been a good experience.
Later!

Another update.
My M41 should be back today.
I'm really looking forward to trying it out.
I'll be sure to let you know how it does.

One thing I wanted to add about the breach face.
Back in the 1970's I had the great pleasure of having
Jim Clark Sr. build three guns for me. A heavy slide .45, a
long heavy slide .45 and Clark High Standard. He always
treated me like a master although I never was and the 3 or 4
times I visited his shop in person he would always take me back to where the pistols were built to show or explain something. One day we talked about the M41. He took me back to the parts bins...I'm sure you all have seen them...rows of metal drawers. He pulled one out and had me look inside. If there was one there was one hundred of the M41 breach blocks. He told me that often the problems encountered with functioning was due to slight variations in these blocks...a little out of square, etc. Sometimes it was a matter of trial and error to get one straightened out.

One other thing I once saw there. This was probably 1974 or so. He had a display case in the front. In it was a 7 1/2" M41
with a full length BoMar rib. I often wondered how that felt...
Later!

It's back!
As soon as I looked thru the box I put the mount and dot back on the gun. We live where I can shoot in back of our property.
I just put 90 rounds thru the gun and it worked flawlessly!
I just can't tell you how happy I am.
I called the gunsmith back that did the work and thanked him over and over. He was very nice.
The trigger was much better than I remembered. I asked if he had cleaned it up? He told me they go over every thing on the gun. It's probably equal to any trigger I've ever had.
I just can't say enough about how great this experience with S&W has been and how wonderfully I was treated!
I know nothing mechanical is perfect and I'll have failures, hopefully not often, but I'm really liking it so far!
