They weigh like 2 1/2 lbs loaded. That's enough to pull my Speedo down! Nice weapon, great price!

Yes, the 4586 is the DAO version of the 4566.

Does that have a shorter DAO trigger pull than the first shot travel in a de-cocked TDA pistol?
It looks like the trigger position is further back in the trigger housing.

Got mine on order.
It'll be my first S&W semi-auto.
May end up being my new truck gun.

You guys are sooooooo lucky. We just recently had another law under the Firearms Act come into effect. We are no longer able to purchase police trade ins. The last ones were Beretta 96Ds and Glocks about 2 years ago. Now, whenever a law enforcement agency purchases new sidearms, the old ones are to be destroyed rather than made available to those of us in the great unwashed. It's all in the name of "public safety" of course.
Let's see...if my local PD had been able to sell their Berettas (they now have M&Ps)...they could easily have raised
$100, 000 for the department...but nooooooo! And the RCMP will lose big time when they turn in their 5946s for new guns in a few years...I believe we are talking over 20, 000 units.
Enjoy the deal fellas, and know that this guy is envious.

Wow, they really must not have been selling. If they weren't, they will be now.
I went through Bud's Police Supply to order and put (1) each 4586TSW and 4553TSW on layaway at the end of June at $399 and $349 respectively. I'd already sent my 20% in on that order within a week of placing it. I saw this thread so I checked their site and now these two pistols are $299 and $259 respectively. I called and asked if I could cancel my order without losing my deposit and then reorder with the new prices. I also stated that even if I lost my deposit I'd still save some money if I cancelled and reordered at the new price. I know that isn't really kosher but for saving almost $200 I'll be unkosher or at least ask to be. I spoke with JR and he checked with Bud. They let me have the new prices and put my deposit towards it IF I bought them both today.
So, two .45 TSWs for about $570 shipped. That's awesome service on Bud's considering they essentially allowed me the discount based on buyer's remorse.

I think it's just good business. They can't buy advertising like your post provides. I've never dealt with them before, but based on your experience, I wouldn't hesitate to give them my business.

I fully expected that they'd say if I cancelled the order and reorder I'd lose the deposit which I was willing to do as it would still save $40. JR ended up just changing the prices listed on my order to the new prices as long as I took them today which saved me about $180 as there was a slight upcharge for using my checkcard. I'm telling you, go in with no expectations or attitude and a little honey and the world is yours.
Budsgunshop only has the 4586s listed.
Budspolicesupply has all three - 4586 for $259, 4553TSW for $259, and 4586TSW for $299. Check their requirements for qualifying personnel and you may find yourself on the list.

DAO 4586's
Here's an inexperience question: the first shot with these pistols is I assume a long double action pull, are the subsequent shots single action style with the hammer (?) cocked and locked for the next shot? Sorry to ask a goofy question...

No, every shot is the same DA pull. The 4506/4566's are the Traditional Double Action or DA/SA .

How's the trigger pull on it? I'm thinking about getting one for my mother. She likes the .45 but I would hate to get her something with a terribly heavy trigger.
Thank you.

I just bought one of those 4553TSW for $349 a week ago, I wish I would have waited for them to drop $90, at least I still got a great deal and the pistol far exceded my expectations for a used pistol and it carries and shoots great. I assume they will sell out quick at this price.

I've shot just about every DAO S&W there is in .40, 9mm and .45ACP and I like them a lot. The DAO trigger is smooth, fairly short, and not overly heavy, but I don't know how strong your mom's hands are. Smith DAOs are easy to learn to shoot well and feel nothing like the long, heavy, and often rough 1st shot pull of traditional DA/SA triggers.
The DAO system on S&W 3rd gen. guns is safe, fast to bring to action and dead simple to master. I really like these guns for those factors. In fact I think the 3953 and 3954 DAO compacts are two of the best CCW 9mm pistols ever built.
All the S&W DAO 3rd generation guns share excellent ergonomics, great sights, and tremendous reliability and durability. They are really good guns.
One important thing to know is the slide is a tad longer on the DAO models so thumb break holsters built for the traditional DA/SA models may or may not work with a DAO.

That's a real crying shame and an insult to taxpayers who will have to shell out more cash to replace these pistols. I have three ex-Canadian police guns in my collection, two Beretta 96Ds I paid $199 a piece for and a sweet little three inch Ruger GP-100 .357 with the partial shroud I snagged for $225. The Ruger came with a heavy black leather duty holster which was stamped made in Canada. All three guns were imported into the US by Century Arms. I bought the 96Ds about two years ago. I love police trade-ins! Awesome value and history to boot. Sorry/angry we won't be seeing anymore guns from our friends to the north.

Wow! You paid $199/gun for the Berettas? The going rate up here was ~$600/gun with holster and 2 mags. The Glocks were going for about the same price as well. Also, I have just read elswhere, that there is a possibility that you folks south of the 49th may be able to get some of our surplus LE guns after all. One of the armed courier services has switched from revolvers to M&Ps recently, and from what I understand, S&W was able to take the revolvers back as part of the deal.
So, once S&W takes them back and out of Canuckistan, I see no reason why they won't be made available to you, at least. And if S&W can do this, then SIG, Ruger, Walther, Glock and Beretta should be able to do the same. Unfortunately, that still leaves guys like me out in the cold up here.
Oh, and I should add that you are absolutely correct about the insult to taxpayers. I know of no police agency that is so flush with money that tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars that could have been realized through the sale of surplussed sidearms, would be unwanted. That money could have been put towards the purchase of the new guns. But nope...Joe Taxpayer will have to make up the difference. Nice, eh?

Are you current or former military? If so, that's listed on their homepage as a qualifying person. Send in your info and scoop one of those babies up before they're gone.
My two are in the shipping department. I'm planning on having my dealer turn them right around for a trip to S&W to have them checked over and rails attached. I figure they might as well take the trip together.

Why is it so many have an aversion to "police trade-ins"? I mean, at $249-299, isn't that a great deal?
So what if there's some holster wear? Ever hear of Scotchbrite? Mechanics is what matters, no? Many police guns are "carried alot shot little", so why not get one?

I had a 4586 on layaway with Bud's. When I saw they had dropped the price on the gun $90, I inquired as to whether I could get the new price. I got the same answer as another poster, pay off the layaway today and the $259 price is yours. I did just that, and now my gun is shipping. I have been a customer and fan of Bud's for some time, and this just made the experience even better. Only problem now is that I'm trying to find the money to get myself a 4553TSW before they run out. Hard to beat at $259 shipped.

Even if they are carried a lot and shot a lot, good luck wearing out an all steel 3rd generation .45 ACP. At most they might need a new set of magazine springs and a new recoil spring. The 45xx guns are tough as nails. $259 for a 4586 is a fantastic deal. I think the pre-TSW DAO trigger on the S&W 3rd Gens is the best DAO trigger of any pistol I have tried. Its short, reasonably light, and very easy to use. I'm mostly a revolver guy anyway, and for me the 4586 is a magazine fed, high capacity revolver.

Ladder13 I got one of the 4553TSW's. Figured one more compact 45 couldn't hurt. Not at those prices anyway. Regards 18DAI.

Everyone needs at least one .45, right?
I'm in for a 4586. I'm anxious to try this DAO stuff.
All my other S&W autos are TDA 9 mm.

I'm not a huge fan of the alloy frame Smiths, well except for the 3913/3953 series. If there was such an animal as the 4556 TSW, I'd be all over it. Bud's Police Supply has the 4586 TSW for $299, and since I qualify to purchase there, I decided to go with it instead. I just love those mid-size .45s. Now I just need to find the money. Just last week the 4586 TSW was $399, $299 is a real deal for any TSW series gun, but especially for an all steel one.

I hate DAO semi auto's, and that includes striker fired guns. Semi autos need to have SA capability for me. Nice looking guns, though

I will too but are we going to morph this into the "Bud's Pic Thread" or are you going to start a new one?
When I checked the 4553TSWs were gone from the police site but both sites still listed the standard 4586. 4586TSW was still on the police site as well.

OMG! I'd been saving up for a M&P15-22P, but this seems almost too good a deal to pass up. What to do? What to do?

Thanks for the heads up, I've got one on the way. This is my first transaction with Bud's and so far so good. I placed my order around 9:00am Friday and it was shipped before 4:00pm.

4585TSW
If you check all the police trade-ins, they also have S&W 4586TSW 80-90% condition for $299 shipping included.

Hate to tell this story BUT. I just got home from Buds a little bit ago. I purchased one of these guns. Got one with Hogue grips and my son and I shot 1 box of shells out of the gun. Put all 50 on the target. found out sights are a little off but still shoots awesome. They still had plenty when we were there this morning at 9:30am. Awesome price for an awesome gun.

The S & W 4586. The one that was on sale for $259.00. Looks a little beat up BUT I would say 80-90%. Son loves it. I love it now to clean the puppy.

I just ordered mine. Can't pass up a quality 45 for $259. Do any of you guys have pictures of the ones you got from this deal?
How does a 4585 compair in size and weight to a full size 1911? This should make a great gun to throw in the center consol of the truck and camping/fishing.
