Default The venerable S&W 59XXXX Magazine

Here is to the great S&W 59XXX magazine! I spend most of my time at gun shows these days fishing these and other S&W magazines out of torn up boxes. How many firearms other than the 59XX series does this magazine work in?

in 69xx or x69 series compacts, Marlin Camp 9 carbines, early KelTec Sub 2000 folding carbines set up for S&W magazines, and KelTec P-11 pistols. Also the Daewoo 51. Probably others.

I'd LOVE to hear about any others.

This is why MecGar still makes 15 and 17rd (flush fit) and 20 rd S&W mags.

For the record, there is a gun shop, in Kentucky I think, that has made special extended base plates so they have frankengrafted a KelTec P-11 12 rd mag to this special base, so it is a flush fit 69xx magazine.

Old S&W 14rd mags can take the late model 15 rd followers to make them 15 rd. I think 69xx followers will do it to.

excellent information on the Keltec p-11 adapter.
I'll have to look into that.
Hopefully it will fit the 10 round mag also.
I think the 10 and 12 round mag bodies are the same size.

Do you know the name of the shop with the adapters?

the bodies are the same, but the springs and followers are different. They only sell them as complete mags. I think $26. Look on Gunbroker for 6906 magazines, they will pop up there. Just look at the picture. There is another place called Keep Shooting that sells their own 5906 and 6906 repro magazines. Might make a 6906 10 rd version.

I have a KelTec P-11 and have tried all kinds of variations with my P-11 mags along with my 5906 and 6906 mags.

It'll work in a 3566 Limited also.

...which means it'll work in all the other PC 9mm double stack pistols too. The 3566 Compact, the SD-9, the SD-356, the Shorty9, the PPC-9 and the Wischo Target Champion 9mm.

I have never seen an S&W 9mm KelTec Sub2000, but I thought these legendary items took the M&P magazines?

Actually...

The original Kel-Tec Sub2k was made in two basic versions, the Glock mag style and the S&W mag style, but the S&W mag style was apparently adaptable to instead use Beretta magazines and maybe one other too.

This carbine did not use the S&W M&P mags.

yes, the ORIGINAL did. The S&W 59xx model isn't that common.

Found three more factory 59XXX mags at the gunshow this weekend. Wonder when I will have enough?

It took me about 4 years to find a first gen Sub 2000 that was factory set up for 59 series mags at a decent price. I believe in the second generation they are on now they also make a SW59 adapter, along with M&P and about a dozen other series’ of handguns.

My sub2k shoots like a dream, and cost me $250. It’s fun to fold up in my briefcase on fall and winter days when I’m carrying a 6906 with 59xx spare mags.

never. Just remember that you can still buy new MecGar mags, which are just as good, so don't pay too much for used from the bargain bin.

I've been getting 59XXX used factory for $20-$35. 4506 and CS 45 for $35-40, Not too bad, I did turn the $70 59xxx down.

I just picked up a older RamLine stainless 17 rounder today.
Seems like I read that RamLine made good magazines, didn't they?

"59XXXX"
"59XXX"
"59XX"

For a second there I thought you had found those elusive 4th and 5th generation metal semi-autos.

my ramline 17 springs feel a lot weaker than the MecGar flush 17rd springs. But Washington is still a free state (for now) and any Ramline magazine is pre-ban '94.

OK, those 69xx magazines are KelTec P-11 (MecGar) with custom base plates made by or for Robertson Trading Post in Tenn. Home Page

They make both 10 and 12 rd versions. Also some other random 3rd gen stuff.

The S&W 59 magazine also fits the Star 28, 30 and 31, provided the magazine disconnect is removed.

Another exciting gun show, able to find one factory 59XX magazine, two CS9 mags and a 22A magazine. 4506 mags have been scarce. 95% of S&W factory mags available at the show were 40 caliber.

Aftermarket MecGar 59xx mags are fantastic quality. The only aftermarket ones that were/are. 15 or 17 round flush, 20 round extended, and neutered 10 rounds too IIRC. Greg Cote LLC is consistently low priced. Sometimes CDNN if on sale.

If it's got the typical constant-force spring used by RamLine,
that's normal. The wind-up spring will give the same
resistance from empty to full, as you load it.

Sounds plausible--Beretta 92 mags work in a P-11 (which was
designed to use 59xx mags), just by cutting an additional slot
for the P-11 mag catch.

I need to try some of my P-11 modded 92 mags in my new-
to-me 6906...
