How do I remove the mag safety from 3rd gen guns?
I know I have seen directions some place, but I can't seem to locate them now.

I seem to remember it was not to difficult but can not remember the procedure.

If you like the mag safety, good for you but keep it to yourself as I have decided all of my 3rd gens will no longer have them.

All second and third generation magazine safeties are removed the same way, by removing the rear sight and taking out the magazine safety plunger and associated parts. Reinstall the rear sight.

IIRC there are two spring loaded plungers under the rear sight and the mag disconnect is the one on the left.

Mack I see the 2 you are remembering, I am looking at a parts schematic on line, thanks for pointing out its the one on the left.
I was trying to find the parts that JudgeColt and 5906fan said. I took the slide off one of the guns and see that the plunger in the slide parts #11 and #12 push down part #10 when the magazine is removed and the magazine pushes #10 back up when it is reinserted.

Next question for any of you is can I remove the part #10 in the schematic (Ejector & Magazine Depressor) and accomplish the same thing or does that part serve another function as well? I am changing the hammers on 2 of the guns so part #10 will be easy to just not reinstall, if it does the same as removing #11 and #12 and is not needed for anything else.

Thanks for the gunsmith 101 class everybody. :D

You can remove the ejector if you just want a single shot, if not it's best to leave it in. Unlike guns such as the Browning Hi-Power the S&W mag safety has no effect on trigger pull. The mag safety plunger is nylon/polymer and the firing pin safety plunger is medal and should be left in.

Thanks handgunner356.
I was just hoping to remove the safety without having to mess up the sights/have to realign them.
