Problem free Bodyguard 380 ???
How many of you have a BG380 that has bee problem free ??? I have one that has serial number 102x and have shot about 350 problem free rounds of a mix of FMJ and JHP from different manufactures. I also have dried fired mine with Snap Caps approx. 1000 times. I was also able to order 3 more magazine and received them about a week ago so now I have a total of 4 magazines. Just posting my experience. God Bless

Mine has been problem-free but I really haven't put that many rounds thru it yet-crossing my fingers. Ordered 3 additional mags last week-were advised they were on backorder.

So far I've been able to fire two rounds before having a disabling problem. My trigger failed to reset and the gun has been at the factory for the past two weeks. Keep an eye on the take-down lever as that seems to be the most common problem these days.

Just put another 50 rounds thru mine on Saturday, making about 160 flawless rounds so far. Used Blazer Brass FMJ, Corbon DPX, Federal HydraShok, Winchester Bonded PDX1, and Speer Gold Dot ammo.

Well, I just got back from the gun range a bit ago and I fired some 100+ rounds thru my brand new BG380. Worked flawlessly for this 70 year old man. Like the laser its a big help. Only the trigger took a bit of learning as it sure has a long throw.
Happy camper here

Just passed 500 trouble free rounds. Only issue I had was one of the laser buttons popped off when I was fiddling with getting the BG into a pancake holster. S&W sent me 2 replacements free, although I did later find the button on the garage floor.
But as far as shooting the thing, it's been flawless and more accurate than I expected. Very satisfied, just need a spare mag now.

I have about 300 rounds on my BG380 without a single problem. I really like this gun. I have two mags on backorder from Cabelas, supposed to be in in about two weeks. I know it must be frustrating to buy a new gun and have problems with it. But I'm sure in the end S&W will make it right!

I have been dry firing mine with snap caps and stopped counting at 1000 about a week ago. Last night I dry fired it again with snap caps approx. 250 pulls. The trigger pull seems to be smoother and easier than when it was new or either that my trigger finger is getting stronger with bigger muscles LOL !!! God Bless

I was doing the same thing last night, and thinking the very same thing as well. Although I *still* have not made it to the range with this pistol (recall that it spent most of the time since I purchased it at the factory for a broken firing pin shaft), I have dry-fired it (with snap caps) probably upwards of 1,200 times. The trigger definitely seems smoother to me...a lot smoother! It still has that initial "starting to pull the trigger" stiffness in the first quarter inch of travel (static friction?), but, after that, it's smooth and easy to stage. It feels remarkably like the trigger on my 340PD. The difference between fresh-out-of-the-box and now can't be due entirely to muscle development because I do dry-fire sessions with my revolvers consistently a couple of times a week.

Ok today just shot 100 rounds of FMJ so I am at about 450 problem free rounds though my BG380. Also while shooting mine today I kept an eye on the take down lever to see if it was moving and it was not, so far it seems to be in there pretty well. God Bless

I just picked up the gun this past Monday and hit the range yesterday and put 50 rounds through it with no problems. I know its only 50 rounds but ya gotta start somewhere I guess. I will throw at least 50 more through it next week and keep everyone posted. I really like this pistol and hope it continues to operate flawlessly.

I am so happy to see a positive thread started.. No doubt, Smith has already put thousands of these guns out there.. I am sure whatever problems guys are having are a small percentage, wish it was zero.. but.... it's a new product and we all know.. stuff happens. I'm looking forward to them being legal in Mass, maybe by Christmas. I did have an opportunity to shoot ablout 50 rounds through one.. it was all good..

I was looking forward to replacing my LCP with one but have been pretty leery since reading all the problems that others have experienced.Think I may wait a bit longer before I make the jump..Love all my other smiths..

I went to a local gun show today and looked at all of the BG380's that were on display. The highest serial number I saw today was EAA98xx, so I am guessing that there is at least 10,000 of the BG380 out there possibly more. I hope this helps. God Bless

It appears from another post on this forum that S&W has determined that two problems exist.
#1 - the spring needs to be stiffer as the flex in the current one is not remaining seated in the groove of the takedown lever allowing it to crawl out.
#2 - the groove in the takedown lever is not cut deep enough and allows the flexible spring to let go under fire.
Initial repairs before they discovered this problem, was to merely replace the spring and takedown lever with the same thing, not fixing the problem.
From other posts, it looks like they are replacing the frames with new serial numbers to fix the two issues. I hope so since mine was send back to them last week.

Just returned from the range and
Put 150 rounds thru my BG and not a misfire. This now makes about 300 rounds thru it without a problem. As a point all the ammo I use is made by USA AMMO and is their reloads.

I have only put 100 round through mine but I haven't had any problems at all with it in doing so. I do wish the trigger was a little bit better though would be my only complaint

very happy with my BG380,
Purchased 14 days ago, serial # EAA21**
Taken once to range, fired three brands of fmj, about 75 rounds and only 12 rounds of Golden Saber 102g hp, it was 100% no hiccups.
Super slim, very light, and the broken laser switch on left side no big deal, great addition to my M&P9c.
I love the gun so far, for the size and weight, I can't think of a better made pistol, again for the size.
the left side laser switch does not work, i am right handed so no big deal, plan to send back the laser only, if s&w would accept it, without having to send the whole gun back.
Now when is Crossbreed going to make a minituck for it?

Vbvaguy where did you get the additional magazines. I looked on S&Ws site and none are shown. I emailed them and the answer was not available at this time.

Hello everybody. Finding a lot of good info on this site from actual experience with this gun and not just advertising. I picked up my BG 380 yesterday (& ankle holster "Uncle Mike" size 10).
Mine came only with one grey rubber button (laser activation). The other one must have fallen out when they packed it (my fault for not taking it out after the dealer got the box from the back).
I haven't fired a single shot yet, but I now wish that I had found this site before I purchased the gun. Even if it fires after 300 or 500 rounds, I would not feel comfortable carrying this gun what it was made for; self-defense. At this point, it seems as if it is much more likely to fail abruptly than any other .380 out there. Is that just my perception?
I also read on of this site's threads, that S&W had a lifetime warranty. My manual states:
LIMITED WARRANTY , Quote: "Smith & Wesson firearms are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship. Any such defects of which Smith & Wesson receives written notice within one year from the date of purchase by the original owner , will be remedied by Smith & Wesson without charge within reasonable time..." end of quote.
Is there perhaps a way to obtain a lifetime warranty from S&W on this gun? I really like the way it feels and the size and features of it. Now I can just pray that it works (and keeps working).

Problem free Bodyguard 380 ???
I can no longer count my Bodyguard among those that are trouble-free. This morning I took it out to the range to up the round count since I haven't shot it very much since buying it. After about 15-20 rounds the takedown lever started coming out and on several occasions the trigger wouldn't reset. Glad to hear S&W has found a cure for these problems-will be giving them a call in the AM. Overall I didn't have 50 rounds total before the problems began. S/N EAA 0041.

Took the BG out this afternoon with my new rifle I got this morning.
wasn't able to go through 20 rounds till the take down pin came out. reinstalled it. was unable to get 8 more rounds though it without it backing out again.
Looks like I am calling S&W again tomorrow
I may just steal my Wifes LCP she doesn't use

So far so good....
Took my BG 380 (EAA93##) through 50 rounds of ball-ammo. The trigger always reset and take-down lever is still in position (keeping my fingers crossed). I had two miss-fires (both fired after being reloaded into the magazine). At 15meters, I had to aim a little above the target to make the desired shot.

100 rnds not a problem---waiting on internet g.sabers to arrive then back again----really like the gun! sights and laser perfect right out of the box. all decent groups. gonna pick up some snap-caps t'nite, try to get the trigger right b4 next shoot. serial # is eaB then low numbers. wondering if that "b" has anything to do with s&w's maybe fix of the mentioned problems?

original serial numbers were EAA but they have made up thru EAA9999 so now they continue with EAB0001.

200 rounds now and not a problem--tweaked the laser just a bit---lots of snap cap work before this latest range shoot, mostly shoot a1911 and this trigger was, in the beginning, a little hard to get used too, really like it now--serial number is eab0##--take-down lever has a nice snap to it, solid. no problems so far what-so-ever.

My Bodyguard as I stated in an earlier post was troublefree thru 600 rounds. Then on my next range outing with friends who wanted to shoot it, it came apart. I couldn't believe it, the slide just flew off the receiver and the takedown pin was nowhere to be found. What is really disheartening was that after 400 troublefree rounds thru it I started carrying it. I'm just glad it came apart on the range and not on the street. This is the first pistol that has ever come apart while firing and while I'm sure S&W will fix it, I've lost confidence in it. It's back at the factory now and we'll see if they repair or replace it.
My Bodyguard 38 on the other hand has been a rock solid performer just surpassing the 1000 round mark. From talking to some knowledgeable people the problem has been with EAA first run pistols. Supposedly the EAB numbered pistols have already been upgraded. My advice to those with EAA numbers is to watch the takedown levers carefully.

Unfortunetly I too had to send mine back to S&W but for a totally different reason from everyone else. I was dry-firing mine with snap caps and on one of my dry fire sessions, small piece of metal came off. From troubleshooting it, it looks to be the back of the firing pin where the hammer hits. The piece is only about 1/4 of an inch long. I called S&W and they mailed me a FEDEX label and told me to box it up and place the FEDEX label on it. I did that on Wednesday 10/13/2010 so we will see what happens. I still like the gun and plan on keeping it. God Bless

The piece is only about 1/4 of an inch long. I called S&W and they mailed me a FEDEX label and told me to box it up and place the FEDEX label on it. I did that on Wednesday 10/13/2010 so we will see what happens. I still like the gun and plan on keeping it. God Bless

Vbvaguy,
Sorry to hear that you've run into this problem, although it's not the first report of this particular defect. I had the same thing happen to my BG380 fresh out of the box. See the link below for my record of the problem and the outcome.
