BG 380 vs LCP II

I'm thinking about getting a pocket gun and I'm considering the BG and the LCP II. Both are the same price and capacity so I was wondering if anyone has done or seen a comparison of these guns.

Frankly, I have some concerns about the BG based on reading the posts about it here, but haven't seen much about the LCP to make a comparison. I'm sure all guns have there issues.

I shot both before purchasing, I liked the way the bg380 felt in my hand and I liked the way it shot. Those were my opinions... I ended up buying an M&P BG380 from rural king for a steal... I have 500+ rounds through it, three light strikes the first time on the range, I had a Galloway precision trigger kit installed for $65(included parts). 100% flawless now... I use it for my carry gun if I am in sweat pants or basketball shorts kinda stuff, chuck it in a pocket and forget about it. I prefer my Shield 45 for edc outside of the house... good luck with whatever you choose!

I bought a BG, and sold it after dry firing it a few times. The trigger was abysmal, and I had to push the magazine release button partway down to insert a magazine. I bought a Ruger Custom LCP, red trigger and no longer made, and I love it. The trigger is great. I have not tried the latest LCP, and won't as I am happy with mine.

I am interested in this as well. From what I've read so far, the LCPII has a great trigger. I've got to go check both out, but am leaning towards the LCP

If the BG had a better trigger id pick it but the trigger is aweful, I now have the LCP II and love it its trigger is excellent and accuracy is good for a gun its size. Very happy with it.

I have over 1200 rounds thru my BG380 with no problems and with the Smith you get last shot hold open ,double strikes capabilities,a SS slide ,less money for spare mags and better sights.All you have to get use too is the long DAO trigger which is what I prefer in a pocket gun.

At work, many women have a problem racking the slide on a semi, so I suggest a revolver. The LCP2 is very easy for anybody to rack. At the last show, it outsold the BG 3:1. GARY

Taught properly my nine yo grandson can rack my BG with no problem. I agree if they can't rack em a revolver is the way to go.My 85 yo father just went too a 642.

I've been reading some on one of the Ruger forums and the only problem with the LCP II I see consistently popping us is a FTF. Appears to be related to the magazine and/or some types of ammo. Nobody complaining about the trigger though.

That's failure to feed, not failure to fire.

I've had several LCPs and thought they were great. I'm not a great fan of DAO pistols and sold mine after only a few range trips. Of course they're in a class by themselves considering the ability to comfortably conceal and carry. With the short barrel and DAO trigger length pull, they might be difficult to fire accurately in an emergency situation. Thank goodness I never had to find out.

I now own a laser equipped BG and it's just fine. I think the trigger pull is smoother and breaks reasonably cleanly. I haven't fired enough rounds to truly break it in, but it's ok. As someone else has mentioned, I prefer to carry my Shield 40, for the obvious reason of stopping power. Of course the Shield trigger pull is a striker setup and was and is crisp and light right out of the box. I just added a Shield 9mm to my collection but haven't fired it yet, but looking forward to it.

Now that the Shield line includes a 45, I'm sure I'll end up with one of those as well. I went through this "gotta have all the models" thing with Ruger, so bought and sold them all but my SR1911 Commander Lightweight which I truly love to shoot. I have a store credit at my mom and pop gun shop so, I will probably invest in the Shield 45.

Ease of slide racking is a null argument between these two guns. About the only way the BG380 could be easier to rack is if you left the recoil spring out of it (not recommended).

I picked up the no laser BG .380 in Feb. 2014 and it was flawless for over 800 rounds, loved it. Then it developed the light strike problem so, with full disclosure to the buyer, sold it at a bargin price. Ruger had the old model LCP on sale at Gander Mountain for $199 so I got that and so far no problems. Thinking seriously about returning to my trusty J frame waiting for me in the gun safe. Never any worries w/that platform.

Just put another 100 fmj and 19 hornady critical defense, no malfunctions and had good groups every time... great little gun

Sent in BG (no lazer) a couple times. The last time it came back I discovered I could NOT field strip and reassemble. Pistol would NOT go back together. Tried at least fifty times. Followed the book precisely. Called S&W. Young guy said "go find a gunsmith". I said I'd like to send it back. He said "go find a gunsmith". It is in a drawer now. IF I can find somebody to put it back together it WILL be sold. Too bad. I like it.

If it were my BG I’d call S&W back and complain about the customer service (CS). That’s a lousy response not what I’ve come to expect from their CS reps. They should send you a shipping label and fix that gun.

I shot both BG380 and the LCP, I chose the BG. Of the two it just felt better in my hand.
It took much range time to get proficient with it, in all I'm happy with the Bodyguard.

I too have the LCP II and so far I prefer it. I DO like the BG but c'mon fellas, three trips back and the last time it is returned with some strange problem that will NOT let me reassemble it? Crazy.
I will try to cal S&W again. I have had, for years, several different S&W revolvers and always thought they were tops. Still have most all of them, so I'm not all fed up with S&W.

I have both and hands down the bodyguard is a better built gun. Better sights, steel frame rails, better grip. If you buy the BG install the Santiago trigger system in it. What a difference in length of pull and break with no misfires or light strikes. This gun is always with me and I own a lot of guns. Summer or winter this gun always finds a place on me. No other handgun I own is with me always. I polished the feed ramp but it doesn't really need it. No malfunctions what so ever, now that I installed that Santiago trigger system. You tube has installation instructions if your handy. Well worth the $100.00 bucks and it looks awesome with the red trigger and laser buttons.

I had an original LCP and an LCP custom. Both were reliable guns. Had a BG with out laser, after 2 trips back to S&W, it still was not reliable. (Never got thru a full magazine without a feed issue.) Traded that gun on an LCP II and am very happy with it. None of the listed guns have great triggers, but they are NOT target guns, they are very close range defensive guns. My LCP II is carried in strong side pocket as a back up to my J-Frame(S) carried cross draw and/or ankle.

Quick follow up to my note above about S&W. Called again. Nice lady on phone. Gun already on it's way back. I DO like it, but I also really like the LCP II also. And who doesn't love an Italian FS92 -Jeeze, a work of art.

I almost always prefer S&W handguns, but if I were looking at 380 EDC right now, I would be tempted by the Browning small 1911 in 380. Maybe worth a look.

I had the original BG380 with the lazer, traded it in for a M&P BG380 no laser in 2014. Fired over 1500 rounds without any issues. Not a fun gun to shoot alot at the range, but not designed for that. My wife shoots it and likes the easy to rack slide. It is my pocket gun. It just works .My .02 cents

I have two BG380's. One is an early prduction model with laser theother is recient production without. Both have run as reliably as a hammer. Allot of folks complain about the "long and heavy" factory trigger but I think you need to keep in mind what the gun was designed for. It's not a range gun that you put 150 rounds per session through. It's not a target gun to shoot small groups at 25 yds.. It's not even a gun for engaging bad guys at 50'. It is a well thought out ,close in, 11 oz, self defence intended pocket pistol that delivers good reliable firepower out to average SD distances. Personally,I think it's about perfect for safe and worry free pocket carry.

The only carry hand gun of mine that is not S&W is my Ruger LCP. Mine is the custom model with the red trigger and actual real useable sights. It’s in my pocket every day. Sometimes it’s my primary gun and sometimes it’s a back up to my 5903 SSV or M&P. It’s been 100% every trip to the range. The only thing is that it seems when pocket carrying the gun oil seems to dry out quickly. I started using gun grease on the rails and makes things much smoother.
