I bought my first S&W 1911 45 acp. today
and what a gun. I bought the Pro Series with the Scandium frame, steel slide, and 3" barrel. This gun is nice!!! I stopped by the range on my way home to test fire the gun. After disassembly, checking, and reassembly, I shot 7 rounds. I started by hitting the 4 inch steel plate 2 times at 7 yards. Then I moved back to 15 yards and hit it 2 more times. Next I moved back to 20 yards and hit it 2 more times. With my last round I shot a 2 inch steel plate at 10 yards. All of my shots were towards the right side of the plates, so I need to adjust the rear sight a fraction. Considering I was shooting standing and unsupported I am very happy with the accuracy and function of the gun.

Congratulations, you will enjoy that gun for years to come. I love mine and it goes with me everywhere. They are easy to handle and accurate out of the box.
Shoot often and enjoy shooting.

Thanks. The only modification I am planning on is to replace the front site with a Tritium site. Will a Novak be the same size and height or will I also have to buy an adjustable rear site?

Sweet, I don't consider myself a gun nut but 1911's and shiney big revolvers both give me a warm fuzzy feelin'! Good luck with the new "toys"!

I ordered the Novak front tritium site and solid black rear site for it a few minutes ago. Being retired L.E. I do not carry any gun unless it has a front night site mounted. I keep getting it out of the safe just to hold because it fits and feels so good in my hand. I carried a Glock mod 17 and then mod 23 for years while in L.E. and usually have a 23 in a pouch, but I like this enough that I may swich and use this for concealed carry along with the M&P 340 in a front pocket holster as my back-up. The best part is that the dealer did a straight trade for this gun with another gun that only cost me $500.00. I am definately a happy camper.
