LPA Handgun Sights

novalty,

I thought I'd warn you that I had a very dissapointing experience with the LPA sight that Precision Sales markets as their "Low Profile rear". It could be that their "Higher Profile rear" is better. I have not seen one. They don't have a BoMar look alike "Competition rear" for a Novak cut.

My CZ85 Combat was factory supplied with an LPA low profile adjustable. The roll pin that served as its elevation hinge pin broke three times. The first two times CZ fixed it under warranty but I had shipping expenses and down time on a regularily used match gun. The third time I paid a local gunsmith to ream the hole and fit a solid pin. An additional problem was that if the sight blade got pushed down the detent notch on the elevation screw seperated from its contact point and the screw could freewheel. That sight never did make it through a month of weekly match firing without losing its elevation setting. The CZ85 has been a great gun otherwise, except of course it's not a S&W and doesn't have any prestige. Hopefully I'll pick it up tomorrow with an old BoMar 1911 adjustable installed.

You might have better luck with LPA's "Higher Profile rear" but I won't gamble my money on another LPA.

Best Regards,

Gil

Gil, Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate the straight-forward review. Hopefully I can find another alternative.

The LPA's I have on two of my Tanfoglio Witnesses, and one on my SIG P226 have been very reliable (never broken) and very easy to use/adjust. I would not hesitate to by them again for any of my pistols.

I have LPA sights on a P220 and a 696, both adjustable & both fiber optic. I have an older adjustable white outline LPA rear on a M29, I think they are first class in every respect. I have not yet managed to break any of them, not for lack of clumsiness.

think-mac and oldRoger, what style do you have for your models. I show for the S&W 45 and 10mm they are showing 3 different looking styles. Plain Black, White outline, and 3 dot. I am considering the 3 dot to replace novak doted. Also I am guessing a gunsmith is required to remove original rear sight and install new. Glad to hear some positive reviews on these sights.

Hello again,

I am also curious which LPA adjustables oldRoger, think-mac and cabezaverde are happy with and how many rounds they have held up to. The roll pin in my CZ85's LPA "Low Profile" broke 3 times and would otherwise loose elevation adjustment from the stresses it recieved from 9mm recoil, not from being dropped or clumsiness. The delicate little thing was just not built to hold up to to 10,000 rounds which is roughly where I'm at with my CZ85. The identical sight on its .22LR conversion unit has worked well but it is not attached to a moving slide.

Incidently I now have the only CZ85 or 75 I've seen with a Bomar sight and it sure looks better with a sight set down into the slide. It's a good thing I plan to take it to the grave with me. I'd never get my money back selling it.

Best Regards,

Gil

The LPA sights for revolvers attach the same as S&W or Millets, just a screwdriver. You will require a sight pusher or a Gunsmith to install them on most auto-loaders.
The Revolver sights seem rugged enough, they have been around for a long time and do not have a bad reputation. The M29 certainly recoils enough to put them to the test. I confess that though I have not shot anything close to 10,000 rounds of 44 magnum in it. I shoot the 696 frequently and my load is 240 grs @ 1000 no problems there.
The LPA fiber optic on the P220 is new, about 3 months I think. I do not expect trouble; it looks very like a BoMar or Wilson rear but with the added fiber tubes.
