I have 2 422's and 2 622's The 622 is basically the same gun but with a S.S slide and silver colored alloy frame. They are fun and reliable little guns, fairly accurate and also very light compared to other .22's.The only thing I don't like about the 422 is that the bluing finish on the frame seems very fragile and scratches and marks up very easily.I am not sure when S&W discontinued them but it has been at least 15 or 20 years ago and parts are very scarce. If you can find one in decent condition around the $200 range or less grab it, you won't regret it.

I own seven of that series of pistols, and owned two others. In my area, they bring big money, depending on the model and configuration. The VR #622's and the target model #2206's and the pocket models #2213/2214 bring the most money. The finish on the #422 is easily damaged by handling, carrying, and even looking at it. If it will be carried alot, choose another model. A #422 will make a fine range gun if you want to keep the finish pristine. These guns generally shoot well and mine have eaten everything I ever fed them, but some bulk Federal ammo I purchased years ago that failed in every .22 firearm I own.

I had a four inch 622 and sold it during a divorce sale. I liked it so much I replaced it with two four inch 422s. One serves as a host for my Gemtech suppressor. The three I've owned were accurate and reliable with most any ammo. They use later Model 41 magazines.

I have a 422 with 6" barrel that I never shoot. Finish is perfect, with no scratches. Listed it on GunBroker earlier this week for $250. Didn't get any bids.
