Eastwood maybe should have bought S&W stock at one point, he's helped sell so much of their product. That company is heavily featured in so many of his movies, and usually by him. M29, M66s, Schofields, M28s, he may have even had a snub nosed one in "The Eiger Sanction." Those are just a few examples, there are others. For these reasons I see him as the ultimate S&W man. And, pretty handy with them, too!

In Gran Tirino he was the prime example of a private citizen who had to take the law into his own hands to get help from law enforcement and get his neighbors involved in protecting their rights. Great message in that movie. Knowing he was going to get shot and probably killed makes his character the Supreme Badass of All Times.

I agree completely. Inspector Callahan always had the perfect thing to say. One of my favorites is "You forgot your fortune cookie...it says, you're shoot out of luck!"
As far as bad dudes in the movies in general, though, Steve McQeen was the baddest. I base my opinion on "The Getaway".

I may have missed it going through all these posts but I don't believe anyone's mentioned Sam Elliot as "Conager". He had what I beilieve was a S&W No 3 in 44 Russian, along with an 1873 Winchester short rifle chambered for the 44 WCF. The character didn't have any quit in him.

Not one mention of Kurt Russell yet so here are two.
Eldon Perry in "Dark Blue" carrying a 4506 and an old 6" .38 M&P.
Snake Plissken in "Escape From L.A." carrying a pair of 629 Hunters.

Well you are both wrong. McQ used a MAC M10 9mm with suppressor. And since you mention a S&W Model 76, How about Charlton Heston as US Army Colonel Robert Neville, MD in Omega Man. Now HE was a bad ---! But in reality, over the years the baddest has to be Clint with all the bad --- Smiths he's used. The most famous being the M29 for which he is most known, but I was always kinda partial to the 8 shot .357 in Blood Work and who could ever forget his Academy Award performance in The Gauntlet with a 2 1/2" M66. Or were you all blinded by Sondra Locke's beauty and acting abilities? No, I didn't think so..............
Okay, so that's it. Clint Eastwood in ALL his various S&W roles!
Oh, and that Crusader story, I call BS on that one too!!

Well it sure wasn't Roy Scheiders character in "Jaws". He should have been "Barney Fifed" and only issued one bullet and told to keep it in his pocket. I believe he used a S&W Model 15.

Not Bad, but classy
My choice would be Lenny Briscoe of Law and Order who carried a Model 36 2". Younger officers officers bragged of their latest trendy semi-autos, but Briscoe, the squad's elder, reminded them that once you have the best, there's no reason to change ( said while spinning the cylinder and locking it shut.)
Definitely not Bad, but way classy!

Anaconda.
Hawk had a Colt Anaconda. I WANT it to be a S&W, but it's a Colt.
In the books, Spenser carried a S&W. Model never named, but it was a "snub nosed Smith and Wesson revolver with walnut grips".

Funny, all the Miami Vice comments and no mention of his partner who carried a Model 38 or 49. Of course he liked to pull his Surbu shotgun more.

I didn't see anyone mentioning Clint's use of a 627 8-shot snubbie in "Bloodwork". He gets my vote for baddest badass who ever strapped on a S&W. Plus, he's the only character I know of who used an AutoMag as his sidearm in a movie.

Its Eastwood, no question. How many people own or owned a 29 because of Dirty Harry? He did for the 29 what Bond did for the PPK.
Don Johnson gets honorable mention, however I think most people still relate the Bren 10 to Sonny Crockett.
I would also add Vic Mackey from the Shield to the list, but not above the two mentioned above.

Lee Marvin once appeared with a silencer on his S&W revolver. The thing looked like a muffler off a snow blower. Hilarious.
The baddest person was Andrea Parker as Miss Parker, who carried a Ladysmith on "The Pretender."

Clint as Dirty Harry will always be first, I can see the Sonny Crockett as number two, and don't forget Gerald McRaney toting a Model 29 with a 8 3/8 barrel in Simon & Simon.

If memory serves, Rick Simon carried a Model 57 with a 6" tube. I recall him specifying his weapon as a 41 magnum. His brother AJ carried a 2.5" M-66 and Rick occasionally sported what I think was a Chief's Special or Model 60. Great show in its day.

Well he is not the baddest by a long shot, and i dont know if any body already said this. But every body already said clint eastwood which was my vote, and we all seam to be just comeing up with any body who carried a S&W on tv or in the movies so this is the one i came up with. Matt Passmore as Detective Jim Longworth in The Glades, in the first seasson he carried a 4506 with adjustable sights, now he carries a Sig 220 im gessing. So not the baddest, but nice looking 4506 any way.

He's evidently reprising his greatest role in a sequal that's sure to be controversial, as you can see depicted in the attached photo

You guys are talking about actors. The badest man to carry a S&W in Harm's Way was General George Patton!

Col Walter Walsh, USMC, who is also the oldest FBI Agent at 104, would get my vote. He still has the 357 Registered Magnum he carried as an FBI Agent in the 30s.
