New 2 me SW1911 ?
Hello everyone,
I just had to add an SW1911 to the stable, Ill get some pics up as soon as I can.
If any of the wise members of the forum could help me with a build date I would be most thankfull. It is the bilboard style pistol, # JRD7xxx I think it may be a fine shooter.
Thank You, .40cal

That is a first year production (2003), would guess from the 7 it was later in the year.

Thank you Novalty, If I get any more SW products I will have to spend some $$$ on the S&W guidebook. A great read for sure.
Second question; I there anything I should look out for on a first year SW1911?

Yes, apparently some had some machining issues. My new to me 108284 model, had some unfinished machining on the breech face, which was causing some strike marks on the rim of the brass, and possible cause for a couple failures-to-feed for me. Apparently, there is a possible other machining issues that left a burr in some of the early production models. If you check out forum.m1911.org, you can find some additional information on it under the Smith & Wesson Section. S&W took care of the ridge left on the breech-face of my 1911, and I am the second owner.

Thank you for the info, from what Ive read the 5000 & under numbers had a recall. My 7000 may be in good shape.
Took delivery and it looks great, slide tight, good lockup, barrel snug, very clean. Looks like it may have a low round count. I think S&W has made a fine 1911.

Great buy, I believe you'll enjoy it. I picked up a SW1911sc, a little while back, it's a beauty and runs like a swiss clock!! It was built in 2005, Smith makes a fine 1911, one of the finer ones for my money.. you'll be hard pressed to find many complaints.
