got a cherry 39 -2 today
As you know, very sweet pistol! I need to know which mags interchange even if they stick out a bit since I only got ONE mag with it.

Isn't that too short? I would think you would need a 3906 mag. I have both, but I don't think they're the same.

The nine round magazines for the 439/639 or the 3904/3906 will work fine. They will extend slightly below the frame, but it won't be too bad, and you get an extra round over the standard 8 round Model 39 magazines.

Congrats on your newest S&W!
Sorry, can't help with what magazines will work.
If you have a 3904 or 3906 you could see if it would feed dummy rounds.
Might could check the classifieds for 39 magazines for sale.

I keep hoping a nice 39-2, 439, 639, 3904, or 3906 will fall in my lap.
A 3904 or 06 would make me very happy.
I really like the one-piece Xenoy (Polycarbonate/Polyester blend) grip.
Very tough material.
Ford used it for the first gen Taurus bumpers and Mercedes Benz has also used it for bumpers. Honda has used it for push mower decks.
Keep the brake cleaner away from it, since it's hard on Polycarbonates.

I don't have a host site right now other than facebook so will post pics later. But it's in great shape. Click on that little box on my original post and it might pop up.

Holsters
BTW I did find out the 39-2 fits nicely in my leather 1911 holsters.

Shot the 39-2 finally
Man, what a nice shooter! So much less recoil than all my 1911s. And it "feels" so 1911ish other than the recoil and the width. I have noticed a bit of wider-ness in the feel of the 39 but it isn't much at all. I really love it and now carry it almost exclusively when not carrying the 1911 commander. It is a lot like the size of my commander sized 1911s and fits in all the same holsters. The only holsters I use it in are the leather 1911 holsters since the finish is perfect or close so I don't want to take chances in the plastic or kydex holsters I have.

Hole in the Hammer
Does it have a hole in the hammer? A S&W Model 39-2 without a hole in the hammer is not a 39-2.
I have a S&W Model 639 which needs a hole in the hammer to go along with its older brother, S&W Model 39-2 with the hole in the hammer.

Legelegel, What do you mean? If it's not a 39-2 then what is it?
Mine is clearly marked 39-2 and does not have a hole in the hammer.
I'm pretty sure that some very early 39-2's had a hole in the hammer, but most do not have a hole from what I've seen.

The hole drilled through the hammer spur was on the Model 39 (no dash) and early 39-2 up to around 1973-1974 (ish) guessing it changed near A-300,000.
IMO there were more 39-2's that do not have the hole in the hammer than do.
The hammer stirrup is shorter on the older "Hole" hammer but probably interchanges.

My hole in the hammer S&W Model 39-2 (Ser #189,XXX) was purchased thru the Fort Richardson, Alaska Post Exchange in 1972. I still have it.
