4006 Mag Q
Does anyone have pics or info on pre and post ban 4006 magazines. Living in a ban state I want to be sure that any 11round mag I buy is a preban mag.
Thanks in advance!

I have a 4006, and from all my reading and understanding, they always had the 11 rouind mag, regardless if pre-ban or not.

Maybe someone else will chime in. I'm guessing the pre-ban 11-round mags will have a yellow follower. The key word is "guessing."

I agree. They had blue followers also.
Were there any post-ban magazines?

From what I've been able to find out in my search about this very same question is that most if not all post ban hi cap mags are marked/stamped (for LE use only). Info. on pre ban 11rnd. (hi-cap) mags is kind of sketchy.Through asking questions from several gunshops/dealers here in NY and out of state I was told that the yellow follower 11rnd. mags were all pre ban. I e-mailed S&W directly asking for clairification of this info. and was told by them that there was no way to tell from markings on the mags weather or not they were pre ban. Personally, I don't think that that answered the actual question but you can take it for what it's worth.

There really isn't any way to tell pre-post ban mags apart. Only the 11rd made during the AWB will have the "LE/Gov use only" stamp in them. The yellow follower mags are older so should be pre-ban for sure, but the tubes are the same and if they had replacement followers they would be blue. So it would be awful hard not to say a new mag wasn't pre-ban.

Where in the heck do you live where LEOs have time to look for such stuff?
(1) It is hard to determine when the mags were made.
(2) It's an eleven round mag, which is one more than the allowable limit.
(3) The pre-ban and post-ban mags are virtually identical.
(4) What criminal would give a $#!+ about this?

I bought a pre-ban 4006 in 1994. (Still own it. ) It came with 11 round mags. I was LEO at the time of purchase, but I don't think the Clinton ban had gone into effect yet. Later, post ban mags were 10 rds. I don't know if it matters, but the followers were / are orange.

I have several pre-ban 4006 mags and they do have yellowish orange followers, some might have blue if the followers have at sometime been replaced. If you want them I would be willing to sell you the three I still have.

I bought a 4006 7-8 years ago that came with two mags with yellowish followers. Last April I bought two more mags at the Wannemacher gun show in Tulsa. One had the yellowish follower and the other had a blue follower with a serial number on the mag. All are 11 round mags. For what's it worth, I just saw used stainless 4006 11 round mags on sale for 9.99 at CDNN.

I stand corrected on my earlier statement.
I do find it odd that one round capacity would be removed, but life is filled with odd things.
I checked all my mags and they are all yellow, for what it's worth and they're all 11 rnd cap.

As much as I hate to succumb to gov't intrusions (as a KA resident we have plenty), if you are overly concerned you could always pick up some 10 round mags to be on the safe side. You are only losing one round compared to the normal capacity mags. Just a thought.

All of the 4006 mags I have seen/touched thus far are 11 rd mags. There were apparently very few higher capacity mags made for an FBI contract, don't remember for sure but I want to say they were either 15 or 20 round, but those were few.
Back to the 4006 mags. I have seen three colors I am pretty sure are S&W original followers, Yellow, Blue, and Black. I have seen a few odd bright orange followers and the mag body had S&W on it, but I think the follower was after market.
Little off topic, but anyone know where to get the thick aluminum base pads that were made for the 5906/4006 and the4506/1006?
