Model 945

Have been shooting really light loads in my 945-1 with 180 grain LSWCs lately and needed to get a bit lighter recoil spring. Called the factory and found out the stock ones were 12 and 16 lb. They said springs for a full size 1911 will work.

I've always used the springs for a 645/4500 series in my guns. The two spring kit they use to send with them were 10# & 14#.

Thanks for the additional information. I thought that might be the case. I will probably go with a wolf variable power 10 or 11 lb spring.

You did nt mention how light a load you are using. I have shot the 185 gr. LSWC trough my S&W945 using loads at 720 and 790 fps with the factory spring (I believe the longer one) without any feeding or ejection failures. They were my bullseye pistol loads for 25 and 50 yards

The load is a Laser Cast or Penn 180 grain LSWC over 4.6 grains of Win 231 with an OAL of 1.250". With this load the 945 will cycle most of the time but will short cycle once and a while or fail to eject the last round occasionally. Its more annoying than a real problem as the gun is just used for bullseye. The gun works fine with 4.8 grains of 231 and up. I use this load in my plate and other bullseye 45s. Its very light and accurate in all of them at 25 yards. For pins I use a 10mm 1911.

Another question

I have another 945 question concerning the Briley bushing. If its removed from the slide is it directional or can it go back in either way?

I use W231 at 5.1-5.2grs with 200gr LSWC and 230gr LRN with dead on accuracy and never feed problems or ejection..just thought Id throw that into the mix...

Got some of the 645/745 variable power recoil springs from Wolf. A 10, 11 and 12 lb. The variable power 12 lb spring fixed the short cycling issue for me. BTW the Wolf 645/745 springs are about 1/2 inch longer than their equivalent variable power spring for a 1911 and they were exactly the same length as the stock 945 springs that came with my gun.
