Seeking a SW1911 Engraved Model
I am almost ready to give up on my search but thought maybe one of the members here might have a lead for me. I am looking to purchase a new or like new SW1911 Engraved model but so far the ones I have found are way out of my price range or have flaws. Anyone have any tips on where I can find one?
Thanks!
Mike

Buy the 1911 you want and have it engraved. That way you get exactly what you want.

An LGS near me has a Lew Horton engraved 5" stainless 1911 with white Micarta grips in the $1,200.00 range. I believe it is one of fifty made for Lew Horton.

This is exactly the gun I am drooling over. Found one new in Florida but the dealer will not deal with a credit card and wants a cashier's check which I won't do. Still looking.

Yep, that is indeed the gun I was talking about. I called them and was ready to buy but not going to deal with sending a money order or cashier's check for the deal. Dude did not really care if he sold the gun or anything else from what I could tell.

That's too bad. Seems like a nice piece. Saw it on armslist. I'd be cautious as well.

Sounds to me like you're looking for something that doesn't exist. Guns like these are expensive and you have to be willing to pay the price. You're learning one of life's lessons, maybe a bit later, but you're learning none the less.

I am almost 64 years old and know the value of a gun as much as you. I am willing to pay what the gun is worth, SW retailed it at $1099.00 but I am not willing to be ripped off with a scam. Pretty easy to understand that.

Florida Pawn Shop
ARMSLIST is FULL of scams. If there is no city, just says Florida and the price is below market. It is a scam and you should flag it. ANY legit pawn shop will take a C/C and ship to your FFl. I have bought a couple guns off ARMSLIST and only face to face. We all work hard for our $$ so lets be careful and beat the scammers. Good luck on your search, looks like a great gun worth paying the market value.

Good idea, I will indeed flag the ad. I will eventually find this pistol so it can keep my other SW1911's company in my safe. I will keep all updated.

If you wanted to go that route with customer engraving, there is currently an un-engraved plain sided Lew Horton (previous model) on GB. If you type in "Horton Smith 1911" it'll be the only one that pops. I am not saying anything about that firearm. I was trying to do some low key research and potentially snatch it up, but i just picked up an first year (October 2003 manufacture) SW1911 so my 1911 slush fund is now officially empty. Maybe someone here will find it of interest.

Watching this gun now Bob. Still 7 days out with no "buy it now" option. Hoping I will be the successful bidder but it already has had 18 bids. I will keep all posted.
Thanks!

I was thinking of getting into this bidding war, but my pockets are not nearly deep enough
So, I will have to settle for the more plebeian 1911s

Looks like you have one sweet collection of SW 1911's already.

If you get that 100 yr model, your collection will surpass mine in the "purdy" factor immediately
BTW, is that 2 tone in the back right a 1911SC? If so, how do you like it and how does it feel/shoot versus your new non railed e series?

Yep if I get the 100yr model it will make my old gun safe look sharp. Hell, it might even make it smell better!! You have sharp eyes the one in the back is indeed the 1911SC. I like the way it fits my hand but naturally it does not shoot as well as the 5" 1911's being a 4.25

What about the 2 tone in the back right. Is that a scandium frame 5"?

Yes and no, it has a scandium frame but is a Doug Koenig limited edition 1911.

I really like the looks of the engraved model as well. I called Smith to see if I could send my gun in to have it done like the new engraved ones, but they said that they only do that to new ones. Very disappointing.

There are a ton of places that engrave guns. This gun was machine engraved and that process is a lot less expensive than hand engraved. Do a search on Google and you might be surprised at how cheap you can have this done.

I guess I'm just old fashioned. There's just seems to be something wrong with S&W having a 100th. anniversary of the 1911. I like my .44 Magnums to have the S&W meatball... I want my 1911s to have a pony.

Well I missed it by $10.00. My last bid was for $950 but every time I bid it instantly was outbid. I think the high bidder used a snipe program and after I found out that I was instantly outbid I gave up. Going to find me one of these dudes, but this was not the one.

I was lurking and saw it start to rise up and then got pulled away to do something else. With GB, he must have had a higher max bid in so the autobid feature was kicking in.
Sorry you lost it.

I just picked this up yesterday for $575. Colt Combat Commander 45 SS, 70 series, used, but appears to have been never fired, finish is 100% perfect. Been lurking for a Commander for some time. This a internet picture, however.

I'm on the road but my FFL dealer has notified me that he received my engraved S&W 1911 and it appears flawless and includes the wooden display case. I did score a sweet S&W Performance Center 1911 in a trade for an AR-15. It is NIB and a 2014 model. Looks like a keeper to me.
