The new 1911 SC "E" comes with a full guide rod per the articles that I have read on the gun. I have been told and seen YouTube vidios on field stripping a full guide rod v. the traditional 1911 short guide rod is a real pain. Guess you have to manufacture a paper clip type tool and go thru some hoops to do all this for cleaning.

Does anyone have any knowledge on the new S&W and the field strip before I buy a $1000+ headache ?

Hmmm, a $1000 headache? Do you clean your 1911 after every outing? Really? There are a lot of opinions about that practice.

In my experience the only paperclip issue is with the "other" guide rod setup. I have a couple of Kimbers and a Para Super Hawg all with a full length guide rod. It's simply the old standard field strip procedure (bring a tough thumb and don't let the spring hit you in the eye)

I have the SC "E" series 1911. It has a full length guide rod with a bushing. Breaks down without any tools other than the bushing wrench. No paperclips or the likes of. Basic 1911 breakdown.
