I used to own a 3913, and I currently own a CS9. Anyone who has both can tell me what the difference in size, weight, and carry comfort is?

CS9 vs 3913

I own both and the chief is 20.8 oz vs the 3913 at 25 oz. The chief has a 3 " barrel and the 3913 has -a 3 1/2". the chief is a 7 shot vs the 3913 is an 8 shot, although the chief will accommodate the 8 round mag, it just hangs down a bit. The chief 's grips are hogue wraparound and are thicker than the 3913's S&W wraparounds. Both are great accurate guns and will remain in my collection.

I used to own a 3913, and currently own a CS9. For me, the CS9 carries a lot easier, even though the 3913 is thin, it's still got a pretty big butt. (No jokes, guys!)
If I'm carrying a bigger pistol than the CS9, I'm going all the way to a Glock 19.

The 3913 mags won't work with my CS9. If the slide is back when inserted the slide won't go forward. If the slide is forward you can slap it in but it locks the slide.

Pro-Mag 8 rounders work perfectly im my CS9.Picked up 5 at funshow for $10 each.also put 3913 grips on and 7 round CS9 factory mags goes in flush to bottom of grip with just finger hook hanging down.Thinner grip...no extra length and looks like it was supposed to be.

From my perspective, the CS9 is lighter on the belt.

The added weight of the 3913 gives it a slightly muzzle heavy feel and a nicely manageable amount of felt recoil.

The CS9, while a bit lighter, has a "lively feel" to its balance, and even though it has a slightly brisker snap to its felt recoil, it seems to return to target rather quickly, too.

I can't generally notice a difference in practical accuracy between the 3913 & CS9 until I get back to around 30-50 yards, at which time the slightly heavier weight of the 3913, perhaps along with its slightly longer sight radius, seems to give me a slight advantage.

Fastbolt,

You did an honest comparison by using a 3913 with the Hogue rubber grips.

Honestly, I cannot tell the the difference with the gun holstered. As a matter of personal belief, I will take a longer barrel rather than a shorter one for IWB. I have a kramer #3 in horsehide that works well with either, but the 3913 feels more secure. Talk about 'subjective'.

The 3913 also seems to shoot a bit more accurately for me, another highly subjective opinion.

A hard-fact objective opinion is that you can't go wrong with either and the CS-9 has a bit more of a novelty and has more sex appeal.

De nada.

You're right about subject evaluations of subtle nuances making things a close call.

I generally use a belt scabbard myself, having tired of IWB some years ago. I like my slacks, jeans & shorts to fit the same in the waistband regardless of whether I'm wearing a particular weapon & holster combination, and when I got back into motorcycle riding I found that even my slim Kydex-type IWB holster & 3913 wasn't as pleasant on a day long ride as OWB (or holstered pocket-carry with another type of weapon). Just depends on the user, their preferences and the circumstances involved.

I'd give at least as much consideration to any perceived difference in overall weight and balance in the hand during live-fire as to when wearing it holstered, though. Sometimes those subtle nuances may make one platform or model a bit easier to shoot when it comes to controllability, recoil management and accuracy.

I don't have anything productive to add, as I don't own either of these models (yet)...
However, I would like to throw out a huge THANKS for the thread!!!

This is something I've been wondering for some time, and is great to see the side-by-side true comparisons (with honest evaluations)...

I realize this is an older thread...but it was a good one!

Does a CS9 fit and work well in a holster made for a 3913? And vise versa of course....
By working well I mean are the retention spots...trigger guard and ejection port ...are they in the same spot and the same size?
They seem to be in looking at the pictures above.
