Model 52 .38 spl mid-range
Can anyone explain what a .38 special mid-range is? This stamped on the barrel and I've never seen it before. Would this be the same as .38 Super?
Thanks in advance.

The S&W Model 52 is chambered for the 38 Special cartridge loaded with the 148 gr. LWC seated flush with the mouth of the case.

Thanks
Thanks for the quick replies. Any guess on the value of a no dash pistol in about 85-90% condition?

If its just finish issues and no mechanical issues like a bad extractor or bulged barrel it should go for between $650 and $1000 depending upon how many magazines come with it and whether the barrel bushing wrench, box and original cleaning tools come with it. For example if it was mechanically sound, the finish was just worn and not scratched or pitted, the grips were not cracked or chipped, the barrel was in very good shape (chamber, muzzle and bore) and it came with 4 to 6 magazines, the box and the tools I would consider it for $850 to $1000

Thanks again
With a little luck it will be going on the market soon and I'll have a shot at buying it.

Serial numbers started at 50,000 and there were only 3,500 Model 52’s produced. The “no dash” doesn’t accept the counterweights and has a SA/DA trigger that uses a set screw to lock out DA (which I’ve been advised not to mess with). The trigger is thicker than on the 52-1 and 52-2, which makes it easy to ID from a distance. The 52-2 seems to be more popular with bullseye shooters because of the improved extractor. I don’t think I’d pay more than about $600 for the gun you describe, assuming it tight's and in good mechanical condition. They can be ammo sensitive and like to be kept clean.

The "Mid-range" comes from 2700 bullseye shooting where leg 1 is the .22 rimfire, leg 2 is .32 cal up, and leg 3 is 45 ACP. Thus the 38 midrange. Often shooters used the 1911 .45 cal for legs 2 and 3.
Would generally agree with RGPM1A on price, but $55 ea. off for mags below 5 and $75 off for no box (Base $900)
