In comparing these two duty pistols the Sig220 full size and the SW4566 do you find one better then the other? Durability? Shootability? Ergonomics? Etc...

I have carried the 220 for 40 years on and off duty and it has never failed me.

I've owned both a 4566 and a P220 in .38 Super. They are both great pistols in every way that counts. However, if I were being rocketed to an alien planet for an unknown length of time, where spare parts and repairs were an impossibility, I'd be armed with the 4566.

As far as which one is "better," either could be depending on the one that suits you best.

I have no exp with the 4566, but have 3 Sigs and they are all first rate and trouble free. The 220 is on the heavy side, as are most Sigs, but it is very reliable and accurate.

While I don't have a 4566 I do have 2 4506's and they are tanks, I've also owned a 220 and I kept the 4506, nuff said.

I owned several 220's and always sold them. OK pistol.

Durability - I'd vote for the steel 4566 over the aluminum framed Sig.

Accuracy - I've always shot the 4566 more accurately. Might be due to the extra weight.

Ergonomics - I'm a lefty. I'd vote this is a wash between the two. No advantage to either.

I do prefer a manual safety. My current duty 4566 is decock only - but has the mag safety intact. I prefer that on a duty pistol.

I never warmed up to the Sig. I love the 4566 though. Everything I need in a duty pistol and nothing I don't. ;) Regards 18DAI.

Got to be honest, P220 is the better choice between the two. I shoot Sigs as well as my 3rd gens.

I had both a 220R and a 4566TSW. Both very fine. I traded the 220R for something else. In time, I realized I couldn't get the accuracy out of the 4566TSW that I readily got of the 220R. I suspect it had something to do with the 4566TSW just not "fitting" my hand as well, though other factors may have been at work also. If I had to do it over, I'd stick with the 220R. Just a personal thing; YMMV. One thing about Sigs, I never quite got used to the slide release being where a frame safety should be.

Hard to say as both pistols are good. I only own a 4506 so here are my 2 cents:

S&W 4566:
Novak sights, steel frame so a little heavy, can be put on "decocked and safe...or just "decocked," S&W still sells the parts, TSW has a rail attached to frame.

SiG P220:
Another proven design, accurate, heavy for an alloy frame pistol, slide release not in the best position while firing, only a "decock" pistol, 220R has rail incorporated in frame.

Both are good, I like steel pistols but the 220 frame is rugged, but lack of a safety and position of the slide release put the 4566 in front, but just by a hair.

In comparing the all stainless Sig220 vs the S&W4566 I would go with the S&W4566. I find the Sig deckoing lever to be very awkwardly placed. I also prefer the ergonomics of the S&W4566.

I have a P220 SSE (all steel pistol) a 4566 TSW, and a 1076. I mention the 1076 because of the decocker. I think SIGs frame mounted decocker is the better of the two, mostly because the slide release/takedown lever is in the way of the decocker on the S&W. IMO field stripping on the SIG is quicker.

I think the two (4566 & P220) are very much alike; size, shape operation, ergonomics etc. I see two clear winners here. Both have an excellent reputation for reliability.

The triggers (my SIG has the short reset feature) are very similar as well. I have taken both to the range a shot them side by side, When they both had rubber grips I think blindfolded it would been hard to tell them apart.

The fact that the P220 is still in production is a positive.
