Possibility
But I really have no way of knowing. Where do I get the correct phone number for Smith and Wesson to figure this out? I will add that it does not have wood grips, it's the black rubber wrap around type.

I must be doing something wrong, I have replied twice and uploaded a picture twice but can't see either.

A phone call to the factory is fruitless. You need to join S&WCA so you can
request a ship date from the historian.

Go to the top of the page and click on Downloads, then SWCA Files Download Area, then SWCA Forms, then Letter Request Form. A letter from the historian will show ship date and destination.
You can also find the forms for joining the SWCA there, if you desire.

No real way to help with such a sparse Sn.
Any thing you get will be a guess. I would say late 1979.
best I got.
Hello new guy, welcome

This is open again......
So I will ask about my 39-2 if I can, serial # 109893, thanks for any info.
I did some more looking up, mine has all the accoutrements of the 39 model, hammer hole, large ampersand, larger slide stop dimple, non slotted mag release, solid barrel bushing, also the -2 is crooked and looks like an add on, I understand they started at #1 in 1954 following through to 115,000 in 1970, so with my perusal I figure late 60s, true?

You've got an interesting transition gun. It probably shipped in 1970.

Hello Mr. snake, nice gun. Have one. Is it stamped "Model-39-2" with
the -2 a bit smaller? Mine was shipped May 1970.

Hi gm, no my 2 is a bit larger and the dash and 2 are stamped at the top of the 9 and a very small bit crooked just before the trigger pin.
It sure is interesting all the variety in these guns and all the different guns in the same run.

OK, maybe I am out of order here but I bought my Model 39 no dash on Sept 9th 1969 serial # 106xxx and also purchased one for my brother Serial 106xxx consecutive order, paid $106.00 each brand new still in their boxes. Both had the long extractor all the way back to the safety, also with the small bump on the barrel feed ramp, but there was no problem as it fed beautifully when I released the slide for the first round, that is how you load it and ALWAYS should load it, I saw above member didn't like losing the single action when pulled the safety down and trigger went forward, all you have to do to return to single action is put the safety up and recock the hammer for single action.
