Found a S&W 645
Hi,
I bought my first 645 today with 5 mags. I have other 3rd Gen. pistols but this is the first 2nd Gen. I actually like the feel of the grip better and the checkering is better to me also. One problem I have is the little finger on the base pad broke off and I need a new pad. Does anyone know if S&W will help with this. Can't seem to find mag parts? Thanks!

Congrats..the only auto I own is a 645 and I would be hard pressed to sell it. I lucked out and found a LEO holster with the thumb break at a pawn shop made for the 645 but have been contemplating on getting ahold of Ray at Lobo leather to see about getting a enhanced for it. I bought mine LNIB from a gentlemen who decided he wanted a 22 auto instead. It only had around a box of shells ran through it. Have fun with it !

It is doubtful that S&W or that aftermarket supplier (Numrich may be a shot in the dark) can help with a 645 floor plate. They have been out of print for 23 years.

Try Midway or Brownells. They have them for lots of S&W mags.

Thanks Gentlemen,
No I got this from a buddy that owns a gun shop locally(not that I get a break!Ha!) I traded a nice CZ75 that I never shot for it. Nothing wrong with a CZ I have the CZ97 that I will never sell, but I'm now a pretty much 10MM and 45 ACP kind of guy!

I love mine. A great shooter and more comfortable in the hand than the 4506.

Good looking pistol!

Hi,
Yes I have to agree,I have big hands and the 645 for some reason is more comfortable than the 3rd Gen. pistols. I have the 4506,4566,1006,so I know what I speak! If you passed on a 645 at a decent price you did screw the pooch, but that can always be resolved! I saw one the other day on GB that was like new for $400!!! I love these S&W steel pistols!

I picked one up many years ago to partner with a couple of 745s. I must admit, the 745s are a joy to use, the 645 not quite some amenable, but I will not sell it. Dave_n

Nice. IMO, one thing that is better with the 2nd Gen over the 3rd, is the good ole grip screws. Yep, you don't have to grab a punch and hammer to drive a pin out to take the grips off like you do with the stock grips, and risk bending the side plate assembly that the grips go around. Maybe its just me, but I don't like to hammer on a pin just to remove the grips. I figure over the years it will wear the frame. I had one 3rd gen pistol I had to soak the pin to get it to budge.
This may just be my anal retentiveness. The Hogue grip improves it a bit with their design of a separate plastic block the pin goes through.
The 645 has that Metal Shop look, its a bit more industrial looking compared to the more slicked 4506. If you wear an Italian suit, have your nails done, grind your coffee beans, then you carry the 4506. If you have not shaved for a few days, wear old jeans, and drink 7-11 coffee, you carry the 645.

Midway has the floorplate. Here is the link:
Smith & Wesson Magazine Floorplate S&W 4563TSW, 4566TSW, 4583TSW, 4586TSW, 4505, 4506, 4526, 4546, 4566, 4567, 4576, 4586, 4596, 645, 745 - MidwayUSA
Numrich has the catch assembly. Here is the link:
Magazine Buttplate Catch Assembly
Numrich says these are in low quantities.
You need both parts, the old style SS floorplates and catches will not interchange with the new.
Hope this helps. I love my 645 - it is a keeper. Just got some Pro Mag 10 round mags for it.

That is the floor plate for the 3rd generation magazine. Not the stainless steel floor plate that he is looking for.

the Kahr floorplates work. Yeah, I know, but it's true. The .45ACP Kahr pistol magazine floorplates work on our pistols. (The 9mm ones work on the 3913 mags too.)
