Performance Center Tactical Competition

Greetings,

I bought this somewhat impulsively the other day. From what I can gather, it is a tactical competition pistol. That's all I know. Does anyone know what model it's based off of? Any additional information would be appreciated.

I'm guessing the milled out area on the frame is for some kind of holster clip? I assume that modification was after-market.

The serial number is 189. I was told it was one of two hundred.

I put a couple of clips through it, but the red-dot sight is off.

You didn't say what caliber it was but I'm guessing .40s&w. The milled off area is for the Briley scope mount. There are several variations of them, SA, TDA, comped, 5" uncomped, two-tone, etc.

Yes, it is a .40 cal. So the milling was done after-market? I'm guessing mine is one of the lower-end versions since it has a plastic hard-case rather than an attache case.

Could you tell me a little more about the scope mount?

How rare are these in general?

That is actually a "Comp .40" or "4006 Special Comp". The red dot and milled area have been added. It is a very nice pistol. Please post some more photos when you can.

Thanks much. Does mine have a match barrel and is that a Briley barrel bushing I see?

I field-stripped it last night. Looks like the barrel can't come out because of the compensator. Is there a trick?

Seems to be a VERY solid pistol. Heavier than a .45!

Curious as to what the original retail price might have been. How old, I wonder. Ten years, maybe?

I think I can get some more pictures (and better ones) after work, now that it's all G96'ed up.

How do the grips come off?

The compensator does not come off. It does have a Barsto match barrel and Briley bushing.

The product code is 104401. It was a Lew Horton gun. Original price was $1,700.00 according to the SCSW. It was made in 1992. There were 150 in the run.

The grip is very easy to remove. I'm sure that all of the guns were not exactly the same but, I'm pretty sure none of them had an arched grip.

Wow, I'm floored. Very good news for a guy who really honestly didn't know what he was buying. Even the guys at Joes' didn't know much about it.

I like the Barsto part. I had one other one of those on a High-Power. I did notice the barrel bushing when I bought it and I kind of recognized it.

I think the main thing I noticed about the pistol before I quickly bought it was the three-digit serial number and the Performance Center logo. And the fact that even my Smith expert buddy Mike was stumped.

I threw in a pix of the 41. More my usual deal.
