My First SW1911!
I just ordered my first SW1911!!! Yaaah for me! I have been contemplating on a new carry gun (woohoo Wisconsin!!!) and was mixxed for a while. I was trying to decide between the 360PD or a 1911. Well I chose the 1911. I talked to my gun guy today and he gave me a fair price on the SW1911 Compact ES; SKU# 108310. I can't wait for it to come in.
Do any of you have suugestions for holsters for concealed and open carry? I have done a few searches, but cannot find anything for that model specifically, are there other S&W models that would have the same fit? I plan on getting a few mags that will fit flush and not be extended also.
I am so excited!

Holsters for S&W1911
http://www.ttgunleather.com/catalog/i35.html
I have a Galco holster for OWB which has been very nice and servicable, and very good quality.
Recently I had Tim Thurner of TT Gunleather make an IWB reinforced mouth holster for one of my guns and all I can say is "wow". The gun went in smootly from the get go, and after only a few days of breaking it in the gun comes out just as smoothly, but is also retained very well. This is one of the finest quality holsters I've seen, and Tim's lead times are a lot more reasonable than many other custom holster makers. Also his prices are a lot better than many of the high end holster makers.

Congrats! You made an excellent choice! You couldn't have made a better one in my opinion! I've been carrying a full 5" stainless SW1911 in an Uncle Mike's IWB every day for a year and a half now, it's suited me better than fine. Next time I find that I have $100 or so that doesn't need to go to paying bills I'll upgrade to a leather IWB, but for now the $20 Uncle Mikes has treated me really well, even my girlfriend can't tell if I'm packing or not until she actually pokes me where the holster is

Holsters are a very personal choice, what works for you may not for me might make you misserable . Lately I have been buying from ebay used Unkle Mikes and altering them to the configuration that works best for me .then having a small custom shop dupliacte the in leather.
I have also had good luck with Galco, DilllonYaki stile ans Blackhalk carbon fiber. I just have one problem with belt holsters, no butt.

You will love it and everything about it. I carry a 5" all day long and have since I first shot a new one over a year ago. It is far more accurate than any out of the box gun I have ever bought and I have bought a lot of them.
Shoot it often and enjoy it.

I bought a SW1911PD 4.25" in January. It shoots and conceals very well. I started buying holsters for different circumstances but 99% of the time I use an IWB (OGL-AXE in Horsehide) from Overland Gunleather. Adam does great work and was a pleasure doing business with. At the time it was a 5 week delivery but well worth it.

flash, how does the holster ride? I dont want it to ride too high but this will be the firt 1911 that i have carry IWB so I dont really have any personal history to go off. As long as it is comfortable and easy to access I shouldnt have a problem. I am used to open carry with my XDM40 in the factory holster and thats fairly comfortable.

I wear it at about 4 o'clock. The grip is basically the only part above the belt. Also a good stiff belt is a help. It did not take long to get used to the IWB.

My intention was to wear it at about the same position that you are, but I wasnt sure about sitting down with it at the 4 o'clock position. Does it get in the way at all when you wear it there or is it uncomfortable when sitting?

I don't find it uncomfortable. You need to be careful when you sit in a metal chair because you may hit the butt and make a clunk. Also potential printing while sitting. I try to sit where my back is away from view if possible. I'm able to keep the holster in the same position while driving. Sometimes I shift the holster just a little in the vehicle.

Flashnyellow- love the grips on that gun! (and the gun itself- she's a beauty).
Where did you find the grips? I didn't see them on S&W's site. Thanks!
By the way - if you talk to Tim Thurner of TT Gunleather- tell him you heard about him here on S&W Forum. He will appreciate that. I can't tell you how much I like the holster he made me, and will be ordering another one from him soon. Plus he was just superior when it came to calling me back, ansering questions, etc., the entire customer experience was great.

Thanks. The grips are VZ ETC (Elite Tactical Carry) Black Cherry in G10 material. Got them from VZ's sight. Great feel and solid grips.

Looks like I'm going to have to wait...backordered. I'll still order the holster though. For the SW Compact ES, if I want to purchase new grips how do I know which ones will fit since this gun has Commader slide and Officer frame?

Sorry about the back order. The wait begins! You need to order grips to match the gun frame.

Rejoice in that you are not using a smart carry holster :-)
