Default Model 4596

I am hoping to gather the experience of other owners of the Model 4596. This is a limited production (approx. 400 manufactured) Lew Horton gun. I am a retired law enforcement officer who has used and carried this exceptional pistol for years. I have found mine (Serial Number TFA3762) to be remarkably reliable, durable, and accurate, although a bit heavy by contemporary standards. I am interested to hear about the experience of other owners. Thanks for any information you can offer.

All of the S&W 45 ACP third generation firearms are great handguns across the board. I have only owned the Model 4506. They are heavy, but as sturdy and reliable a design as is out there. They are working guns not competition pistols, but highly accurate. Very glad that I have a third gen 45ACP.

I have a LNIB 4596....it just sits in the safe with the other 77 S&W 3rd gens rare/low productions I have. I carry a Springfield and other high production models. It hurts me to carry any rare/low production S&W 3rd gen!

Enjoy yours!

Cheers!!!
David

Op's last activity was in 2012. I don't think you'll be getting responses.

Amazing how these zombie threads pop up now and again. You don't even realize it until someone points it out, then you want to kick yourself.

The 4596 is essentially the lower half of a 4506 mated to the upper of a 4516. What I have is exactly that (that is to say, NOT a Lew Horton) - and it is my very favorite .45 to shoot.

I like how it has the full-size (and full capacity) of the 4506 with the ease of handling of the shorter barrel and slide. The gentleman who put together and sold the upper to me was a real master smith from Maine and the fitment and function of the upper is like silk. I occasionally have it in my carry rotation, but usually I stick with my CS45 that I recently purchased.

I'll admit I fell for this myself, but since I love the 4596 I think I'll keep my reply up. Old topics deserve some love, too!

It hurts them not to be carried. They’re very sensitive

I carry my recently purchased 4536 (1 of 736) and it’s very happy.
