Hi Jed,

This is an oft repeated question. The answer is $200 - $500 depending on a lot of things. I suggest you compare yours to some on dubbya dot gunbroker dot com. That seems to be the bench mark.

I picked up one for 275 just last week. I would have paid more given the options i had. Pawnshops can be your friend as well as your enemy. I have one in town I frequent and send people to. They usually keep me in mind if they get something I have mentioned. Its also fun to see what others think the "best" is.

Bought a NIB one a couple of years ago for $420 OTD at a gunshow. A little on the high side, but you don't find them new very often.

I guess the short answer is whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Especially with the internet its a crapshoot trying to answer that question precisely!A 5906 might go for $350 out the door in your neck of the woods compared to someone in the next town over who would sell their grandmother to find one under $500. It really depends.

Another factor is what the gun comes with. Extra accessories, holsters, magazines cant hurt.

Example of this truth about wild variations in gun prices-I went to a local gun store here that has a Taurus PT840, a polymer frame .40 S&W handgun, for $485. It sells for $350 new in box at jetguns.com and budsgunshop.com -shipped.

Sold mine a while back for $300, glad to see it gone, stainless on stainless and several thousand rds. make for lots of wear even with lubricant. Try to fire before you buy, lots of worn out whores out there. If you watch closely those buying them have low #'s of posts here.

About 400 for a non LE trade in gun. About 350 plus minus a bit for a LE trade in unless it is really nice.

And this is to say what exactly?

I fail to see the association between high postcount on an internet forum and 5906 reliability. For every worn out 'whore' there is a 'virgin' that's seen the inside of someone's safe or holster for the last decade also.

And then you have the twists.

I bought a used Taurus PT99 that had tacky gold lettering painted on the slide markings and grime all over the finish at the store, with a sticking magazine to boot. 10 minutes of elbow grease and another 30 with a very small flathead screwdriver and pow, a pretty gun emerged from the grime. Two hours at the range and I had a precise and pretty gun.

O, and that sticking magazine? Turns out the 17 round new-generation Taurus mags fit and eject just fine. The mag it sold with was out of spec junk with a rounded off notch.

The moral is that judging a book by the cover is seldom wise, and when it comes to guns the practice is downright foolish.

I think you will be hard pressed to find a better value on a 5906 than the CDNN police trade ins right now. CDNN has a great reputation. The one I received from them was in very good condition and looked to be fired very little. Even after shipping and ATF transfer fee, it was still under $350. I did a fair bit of research prior to purchasing mine and it paid off--I am a happy camper.

I bought mine that came with two 15rd mags for $380 OTD. I guess I paid a little too much, seeing some of the posts on here.

What I've found to be a challenge is that I'm keeping an eye out for a 5906 with a certain set of features;adjustible sights with rounded trigger guard. For some reason those guns never come up for sale often compared to the eleventy billion Novak sight models.Andf when they do its typically at 'crack-pipe' price levels.

That's the version I would like too. Mine is a rounded trigger guard, but the fixed Novak sights. I have the adjustable sights on my 439, and I really like them.

Mine was $350 with 3 mags and the original box. My 6906 was about $375 with 4 mags, the original box, and an extra set of Hogue grips.

I loved my 5906 and will buy another if I find one at a good price. I sold mine due to needing money, nothing to do with the gun.
