Default SW 4567 NS

Hello all,

I currently do not own a S@W pistol.... yet!!! I have come across a SW 4567 NS in a local add and the more I research it the more I like it. The problem I am running into is that there are not many references for this gun as it seems to be a limited edition pistol. I was wondering if anybody could give me some insight on the gun? I generally prefer an all metal(heavy) SA/DA type pistol with good pointability and ergonomics such as my CZ 75 SP01. Does anybody know how they compare? I realize that the 4567 is a .45 ACP and will most likely have more "kick" but that is fine. Another question I have is it a good gun? It looks like a nice gun but what do current/prior owners feel about it? Also, what would be a fair price to pay for one? The one I am looking at is in pretty good condition but the night sights need recharged or replaced. I appreciate your feedback on this matter. Are replacement parts readily available for this pistol?

Thank you

Sean

Sean,
I owned one of these in the past. They do not kick much because the steel frame is heavier than your typical plastic framed gun. They only made 1,236 of them so not all that common but they do come available every now and then. Typical price seems to be between $400 to $500. I should add that you can't beat a well built 3rd generation 45 S&W.

I bought one in '92 & it's one of a very small number of guns I wish I'd never gotten rid of. Recoil is very manageable, I will say I was weaned on the 1911 so the 45acp is no big deal to me. We're all different however. Lots of folks have & use the 4566, essentially the same gun w/a stainless slide and seem to be very happy. Getting the tritium replaced is no big deal, just send the slide to Trijicon & they replace the lamps, ship it back to you.

There were two runs of these, the second has "Performance Center" on the slide, the original run does not.

Here's one that's been up for auction a couple of times, I'm not a buyer but I do search them out now & then for giggles. It's more than I'd spend but what do I know:

The 4567 and its all-stainless version, the 4566 are very nice guns and due to their all-steel construction do not have heavy recoil, as already mentioned. Anything you may hear or read about the 4566 applies to the 4567, except for the blued vs. stainless slide. They are otherwise identical guns. The 4566 is also available as a full-size model (4506) and in that length they can also be found with adjustable sights.

Generally, if in good shape, they will sell for around $450.00-$650.00 (depending on condition, area of the country, and typical market issues.

The night sights on the 4567 NS would certainly be near or past their life by now. The 4567 was a limited run and therefore should command a slight, but not huge premium, at least in new or like new condition. By the time it has much visible wear, it would not be worth more than a 4566 (IMHO). The one for $825 on GB has not sold, although someone bid $755.00 on it about a week ago. I was surprised by that bid.

If you want to tell us more about condition and price we can give you more specific opinions

If you decide you are not interested and the gun is nice and reasonably priced, I and others here wold probably be interested and you might want to let people know where it is.

Nice guns for sure. Had 2, sold one after shooting it quite a bit. Kept the pretty one. I may be talked out of it at some point but it won't be for 500 bucks.

Thanks everyone for your input and responses. I did end up buying it!!! $400 for it and two mags and 2 boxes of ammo. As far as getting the sights recharged, would that effect the value of it? They are not bright at all and should be replaced. How does one go around getting them recharged? Over all the gun is in good condition with some blueing wear. Would having the slide re-blued hurt the value?

Congratulations on your purchase.

I am not sure, but I suspect the sights have trijicon inserts. If so, I believe you can send the slide to trijicon and they will re-lamp the sights for you. Otherwise, you could send the gun or slide to S&W and they can replace the tubes.

I don't think it would hurt any resale value.

As far as the slide goes, I would not reblue it unless the bluing is pretty bad. If it needs to be done, I would probably send it to S&W to do the reblue. If the bluing is just a bit thin or has typical muzzle wear, I would leave it.

Part of the problem with having the slide reblued is that if someone goes crazy buffing the slide and/or does a sloppy reblue, then you would have damaged the value of the gun, but not because of some collector value, just because even as a shooter, it is less desirable.

I would suggest you replace the recoil spring and probably the magazine spring. If you are capable I would also consider replacing the firing pin spring. This gun has been around for awhile and those are parts that will wear out.

"just send the slide to Trijicon & they replace the lamps, ship it back to you."

Trijicon, Inc. Contact info on their site.

Shouldn't really affect value, besides if you're going to shoot it, then don't worry about value. Besides if you don't have the original box & papers than I think a hard core collector wouldn't quibble about whether the triji lamps were replaced or not.

If you're really concerned about the slide, you can send it back to S&W for the reblue, it "should" be done nicely by the factory. Good luck and post some pics.
