Default New SW1911

I am now the proud owner of a new SW1911 and it's a beauty. I swapped out the factory grips for a pair of Herrett's coca Bolo checkered grips I had and I think it enhances the pistol.

After taking it down and doing a bit of cleaning(standard SOP with me with any gun) it was pretty dry and so got some lube as to retract the slide took some effort. This is a very tight pistol. The bushing is tight and the fit of the slide to frame is super. The throat job is second to none and I had fed a couple 200 gr LSWC's through it and it fed and extracted with nary a hitch. I'll be giving it a break in Friday and have about 150 rounds to test it with including the 200 gr SWC's with three different powders.

I made a coup;le of hasty pics to show it off a little. No prizes for the photography but you can get an idea how the pistol/grips look. Quite happy with this and it was everything I thought it would be.

She's a beauty!! Congrats. I have one, SW1911sc, love it too. Bumped into another one on another board recently and had to buy it for the price, a day later, I stopped into my favorite LGS and he just got a used SW1911PD model, all black with the tactical lower rail... had to put that one on layaway too... I really like the SW 1911's, never see a bad word about them, actually, almost never..

I do like those grips myself. I'm sure it'll shoot great, BAMA and thanks. I'm going to give it a workout with some recently cast SWC's from a Mihec mold. Friday's are my day off so, I'll take my time as range time is just $10 and that's if you say 30 minutes or four hours. I'm finding it hard to keep my hands off it.

these are the loads I'm trying with that bullet...

8.2 gr of AA#5
6 gr of Universal
5.5 gr of 231

Nice looking 1911. If it will shoot to match it's looks,I'd say your a winner. Hardly ever hear a lot of bad PR about the Smith line of 1911's. I think most people agree that they are a lot of gun for the money right outta the box.

Most of the complaining I hear comes from the die hard colt guys that will never bow down to the external extractor..doesn't bother me in the least. It's a proven design that works and is less finiky in my opinion.

Enjoy that Smith!

External extractors don't both me. The best and most reliable 45 I've ever owned was the 4506. It was the first with the external extractor and now some 20 years later, it's still tops, IMO.

One small thing with the SW1911. There's a bit of creep in the trigger and there's no mention in the instruction manual how to take it out. I have had adjustable triggers such as this on other 1911's and they can be adjusted with an allen wrench through the hole in the front of the trigger. Of course, none was included in the box so you have to fish around and try and find one that will fit. I can't recall which way to turn it, however...I think clockwise but haven't as yet made any adjustment.

That screw in the trigger is to take out over travel, not adjust pull weight. If its any thing like my Colt, you turn it clock wise until the trigger wont release the hammer, then slowly turn counter clock wise while applying pressure to the trigger until the hammer falls. Turn another half turn to ensure reliability, and you should be all set.

The set screw in the trigger is installed backwards! They obviously do that to discourage you fooling with it. I tried half a dozen Allen wrenches and none would fit so, I looked closely with a magnifying glass and it's installed backwards.

I got this one NIB from a member here and it was just as he described. I'm counting the hours until tomorrow when I can get to the range.

Just an update on the first range trip with this pistol. I took it out for it's trial run this morning and was definitely happy about the results. I had three different loads for the 200 gr SWC and loaded some Hornady FMJ along with about 15 rounds of the Ranger T 230 gr. Not a bobble with any of these loads in feeding, extracting or ejecting and not FTRTB issues.

All groups ran an average of 1 3/4" with one running 1 1/2" had I not pulled two of them. These were 15-25 rounds with each test. I know it would have done even better but it was me getting use to it and the trigger. Yep, this is a keeper. I lost about ten pieces of brass due to them hitting the side of the partition and bouncing over the caution line. That was expected. There was no leading of any of the loads with the SWC and probably my best group was with 5.5 gr of 231 and 6 gr of Universal.

S&W makes a nice 1911, even w/ the dreaded ext extractor. My PD has been flawless in over 1500rds of mixed ammo. It's my primary CCW.

Is that a bobbed grip... or just the way it's sitting/ I'm going to pick up a PD this morning, I'm really excited.
