1911 E Series questions
First off, I am looking at the bobbed model. I see that the slide in stainless (even with the Melonite model), but what about other parts on the gun? MSH, grip safety, etc.
Also, is it safe to run +P in these? I have no issues in my steal frames, but will the scandium take an occasional dose? I like my Speer GD 200gr +P's!

For a steady dose you may want to use a stronger recoil spring.
Casual use should be no problem. I wouldn't use a lot of them in any of my 1911s with the stock spring.

I was just looking at function testing my carry ammo. I had the older comp ES model and it wouldn't feed them.
Anyone know what weight the stock recoil and mainspring is on these?

I'm thinking about a SW1911SC (sku 108483) also.
Does anyone know what color the sights on it are? All I can find advertised is "Tritium", but no mention of if it's green front/green rear or if it's green front/yellow rear or if it's green front/orange rear.

Ok, got mine yesterday. Here are some observations outside what most can find in the catalog:
MSH is plastic and checkered all the way to the heal
My extractor has the roll pin instead of the taper pin
Sights are indeed green/green
All action parts are MIM
Hammer, slide lock, thumb & grip safeties, mag lock, pins are blued steel
Grip screw bushings and plunger tube are NOT staked
Feed ramp is chock full of tooling marks
Mags are Checkmate's

Hey POTS, I have the E-Series 1911SC (melonite) and find it to be a very nice pistol. I did however have a few issues with it when I first got it. First thing to address was the slidestop, it had some rough spots on the underside that put a nice scratch on the frame and a casting mark on the pin itself so I swapped it out for an Ed Brown unit. Next was the 8rd mag that was supplied with the pistol, it gave me a ftf about every 100 rounds so I have put that one aside for now and replaced it with the new Wilson 7rd +p mag and it works so well that I am ordering some more. Then the extractor pin has a tendency to walk down towards the frame after every range trip so I applied a drop of green loctite before I tapped it back in place and has not been an issue again. As far as the feed ramp goes, I noticed some marks on mine and thought the frame was cracked but found that the nose of the bullet was marking the ramp in such a pattern that it just looked like a crack. I started using the Corbon Pow-R-Ball 185gr +p ammo which has a grey polymer ball inserted into the hollowpoint and leaves a grey mark on the feed ramp and I have shot many of these +p rounds through her to see how it functions for carry and have had no problems at all. I believe I have worked the bugs out of this one for now but after reading some threads on other 1911 forums, I plan to have a new premium plunger tube staked in just for piece of mind. I will say again that this pistol is one of the best shooting 1911's I have ever purchased and although S&W has given me some pause when it comes to their ability to produce an issue free product, I just love to handle this gun and I carry it daily for protection. Please post back after your range trip which I would hope is soon. Thanks!

Well I sent the gun off to Beeville Armory for some work. Having an Ed Brown action put in, XS Sights installed, some VZ grips, and I am having them refinish the whole thing in Gun Kote flat black. I know I will get flamed for taking a NIB pistol and gutting it, but I just wasn't happy with the stock configuration. Hoping to have it back in a week or so, I'll post some pics when I do.
