S&W saftey + decocker to just decocker conversion???
What are the steps to convert a S&W auto with the standard slide mounted saftey+decocker to be just a decocker where the safety will automatically return to the fire position.
I've seen a few guns setup like this but had thought they were a specific model.
I really don't like the slide mounted safety style S&W, Beretta and others use and have avoided owning them based just on that safety. But, if I can have the safety work only as a decocker then it opens up a lot of nice Smith and Wessons that might be added to my battery.

Alternately, you could take a look at the frame mounted decocker models. The 10mm 1076 being one of the easier to find examples, but there are 45 and 9 model as well, and they are found on all three frames sizes of the 3rd gen 45xx/10xx pistols. There are also a bunch of double action only model that work around the safety 'issue' as well.

Yes, I just found a 1076, I've seen 4026s before. DAO is ok I guess. But there are a lot more standard models out there on the used market, if you can convert those I would be interested.

Hopefully someone with more certain knowledge will jump in here, but I seem to recall someone posting that the factory was no longer doing decocker conversion work. A number of the TSW models were speced with this type of safety as part of an LE contract, but I'm not sure if this feature was ever found on non-contract guns? [Anyone know for sure?]
As for the DAO models: I would see if you can try the trigger on one before you dismiss them out of hand. I was quite surprised at how much better the trigger was on the early examples I've handled, than any other DAO auto pistol I've come across since.

I like the decock-only version very much. They are on several of my Performance Center models--9 Recon, 40 Recon, Shorty Forty 2000, 45 Recon, and 45 CQB. For standard 3rd Gen pistols, they mostly came on LE contracts. I recently inquired with S&W about converting an early no-rail 3913TSW to decock-only and was told that they did not have the parts and did not know when more would be available. So, I bought a no-rail 4003TSW with the decock feature. I would still like to get my 3913TSW converted.

I bought a pristine 4006TSW that is decock only. I don't know if it came that way or was converted by S&W later. It is nice. I also have a Beretta 96G Vertec that is decock only and I love it.

They do not. I emailed and got the response "we no longer offer that service"

That stinks, I should've sent mine in earlier this year. When I asked then, it was only $42 plus shipping

I was pretty bummed about this also. I was *this close* to sending my favorite 4566. Being without it for more than 8 hours would be hard, but having it back in that configuration would be SWEET.
