Added a 4026 today
A week ago at a local gun show, I spotted at 4026 on a dealer's table. It had a $450 price on it, looked very clean, and came with a holster and 5 mags. No box or papers. Supposedly it was a LE trade-in. The gun fund was a bit low, and I wasn't sure I wanted to add .40 S&W to my small group of 9mm and .45, but I took one of his cards, just in case.
I came home, did some reading up on our favorite S&W forum, and checked the Standard Catalog, and decided I needed that gun. I've always thought I wanted a frame decocker, and almost bought a 5926 a couple of times.
I called him early this week, and by the end of last weekend's show he hadn't sold the 4026, so I asked him to hold onto it and I would pick it up at this weekend's show. He had somehow managed to sell the holster separately (?) so the price got lower.
I was at the show bright and early today, and completed the deal. This thing is like new! Just the lightest of faint marks on the stainless, not even holster wear. The proper frame decocker arched back grips are perfect. The internals look virtually unused. This thing looks like it just rolled out of S&W and sat in some department's armory for it's whole life.
The Standard Catalog says this was only built between 1991 and 1993, but the serial number VCTxxxx looks to be later than that. Worth a call to S&W to find out, and maybe a letter, since these don't pop up every day.
A question - is the 4026 part of the group of frame decocker models that were the subject of the recall? This one doesn't have the two punch marks under the decocking lever.
Oh, and the next aisle at the show I grabbed 3 more NIB .40 S&W mags for $20 each.

Awesome find. I wondered if this was the one from Summit gunbrokers.
Sounds like you have plenty of mags for it. I like that the sights, mags etc are the same for the frame decocker guns.

I'd say it may be a late 1993 build. My 4003 has a VAE serial and S&W says it was built oct 1993.

The frame decocker issues were with the early 10 mm's I would think the problem was corrected in later models so no dot's needed.

Oh man, nice score. I have to chime in on the S&W frame mounted decocker. IHMO, compared to SIG, these come up short. I have had three 1076's pass through my hands and the one and only complaint I had was the flimsy feeling frame decocker. This has been my main complaint about the frame mounted decocker S&W firearms. I hope this gun works for you, cause I really would love to add one to my collection.

I never noticed that before. The 4026 is not listed on the recall, only the 9mm, 10mm, and .45 ACPs.
Nice job on the pistol and the mags. You don't see many 4026.

There should be a pair of punched dimples under the decocker for those that were in the recall. My 4536 has the 2 punch marks. (I understand that there were not many side decockers made)
And like snw19_357 said, not all models were recalled.

To close the issue of the recall and the 4026, I talked to Customer Service today at S&W, and they confirmed that the 4026 model is not subject to the recall.
I also found that my pistol S/N VCT7773 was shipped in March of 2000, so there is another data point for those keeping track of serial numbers and shipping dates.
While I had them on the phone I ordered some spare recoil springs for the 4026, 4566 and 5906. The 4026 and 4566 take the same spring, and they only had 2 in stock, any more would go to a backorder status. They had plenty of the 5906 springs.
I also wanted a spare slide stop for the 5906, with the intention of getting one extended. Those were out of stock and backordered.

I didn't realize when I took down the information on the 3/2000 ship date on my 4026, but it's well outside of the 1991-1993 date range referenced in the SCSW. It might be worth a letter.

Nice find. Very clean. I tried my son's SIG with the frame decocker and liked it.
