Default My first 4506: It's a SHOOTER!!

Howdy folks,

I recently posted about my first S&W auto, a 4506. I had a chance to wring it out some this weekend--and I have nothing but great things to report.

Let's start off with a pic--because we all love pics:

That's the first 100 rounds of WWB. Shot at 15 yards, standing Weaver. First DA shot was low so I just went for a group where the first shot landed.

POI is spot on, I'm just pulling that first DA shot low because I'm used to 1911s.

So...it's official. This 4506 is a shooter!

I've never shot a gun as easily or as accurately as I did the 4506. Ever. This is the most naturally shooting firearm I've ever owned--the entire time I was shooting I felt like the target was only at arm's length away and I was putting the muzzle against the paper and pulling the trigger.

Recoil was even more manageable than a 1911, at least for me, and the crisp, creep-free single action trigger and super short reset made shooting a breeze.

I also went through 500 rounds without a single malfunction of any kind. Outstanding!

I have never in my 20 years of shooting been this happy with a new firearm. I'm now actively looking for another 4506. And a 5906...and a 1006...

Best,

Heekma

I have owned a 4506 (no Dash) for many years. I found this write up on them and love this gun for range time. It is too heavy for EDC. It is more accurate than any stock 1911 I've ever owned.

Review S&W 4506

If shooters are lucky one day they can fire one too.

Glad to see someone else so enamored with the 4506 as myself. I've had mine since 1990 and have nothing but high accolades for it. I've said it before and so say I again, IMHO, it's the best 45 S&W ever put out in production.

I am a S&W revolver guy, but I did buy a 4567 .45 last week after shooting my friends 4506. My next gun, will be a 4506 for sure, I was really impressed. Usually, I am just a "1911" guy when it comes to .45 Semi's, but not any more.

Enjoy the gun, very nice.

I'm not a fan of the 3rd gen smith's but that's an impressive target for 15yds.

I had a very similar experience shooting my new 4006. These S&W semi-autos are shooters.

Titegroups,

It's the most impressive group I've ever shot with an auto at 15 yards, that's for sure. This is the first auto I've felt as comfortable shooting as a good revolver. Even at 25 yards I was easily keeping all the rounds inside the head of a standard silhouette, most of them making a big, ragged 4" hole.

This is a gun that is very easy to shoot well.

Best,

Heekma

With the kind of experiences people have had with their 3rd gens, including myself, it sure does make one wonder what bonehead bean counter executive in S&W convinced them to ash can the 3rd gens from their regular line up....
