Default Anyone else have a model 457 ?

I picked up this two tone 457 off Auction Arms for 350.00 shipped.

I used to have stainless 4516 which I sold in a fit of bordom. Several months ago I found this 457 which is basically the same but has the aluminum frame so it's lighter.

It's in great condition and is very accurate for it's size.

Here it is with my 6906

Well Randy, I have one and I had it up for sale.

I came to my senses and decided to keep her as they dont' make them anymore and it's one reliable, slim .45 for CC. She shoots just fine and I have a 4563TSW that I can interchange the mags with......so, enjoy yours.

Thanks for the reply. I really like mine.

Is your's all black or two tone ?

I did a search in this forum for S&W 457 and got zero results which I thought was odd. Surely there has to be more of these out there.

All blued.

I'd like a stainless, but they're hard to come by.

Again, these are undervalued .45's but go bang everytime.

You have a nice set of generation 3 autos.....probably won't be the last.

Have one here also, 2 tone and I agree with all other's comments. Had it for sale, had a potential buyer but then came to my senses and kept it.

When I was commanding a drug task force I carried a 645 as my primary and a 457 as my backup. When I left the task force I carried the 457 a my primary. Mine is NOT for sale and WON'T be for sale. It's a heck of a shooter, feeds everything including some really sad reloads, and accurate. I still carry it. This is what it looked like when I got it. It's showing a bit of blueing wear these days around the muzzle end of the slide but still generally it looks pretty good.

I had one when they first came out and ended up trading it to a dear friend who really liked the size and features/fit for his Springfield Armory 1911A1 National Match.
He still uses the 457 and I still use the 1911. I missed that particular gun and ended up getting a SS 457 on Gunbroker for $272.00
Happy camper again!
Also a Randy.........

Nice to see a few other 457's coming out of the closet.

When I was looking there were several all black and a couple two tone for sale but did not see any stainless slide models available which I would have preferred. I like the look of two tone but for a carry piece stainless just makes more sense.

As for liking these all metal Smith's, the two pictured are not my first. A few years ago I had a 6906, 5906, 5903, 4506, 4566, 4516, and CS-45 all at the same time.

After a while I went through one of my many mood swings where I wanted something different so I sold them all and bought 6 Glocks of varied sizes and calibers along with other brands of polymer frame guns.

After a year or so those Glocks & other's were sold and I bought several aluminum and steel frame pistols like EAA, CZ, Sig and these two latest 3rd gen Smith's.

Now I've bought more polymer frame like S&W M&P9, FN FNP9, Glock 19, HK USP9.

Does anyone know if they ever made curved back grips for the 457 or 4516. I prefer those cause the straight back grips tend to make the muzzle point low.

It just never ends.

I have the stainless model. I carry it about 50% of the time with my 3913 and 640 Centennial carried the rest of the time. I think the 457 is one of the great S&W 45s and I would buy another if I found one at a reasonable price.
