I know these are the same pistol and I cannot find the answer any place else. Today I was shooting in a IDPA even and my gun stopped working. The striker seem like it comes back but not far enough.. the trigger acts like a decocker. I can rack the slide and cock the striker but when I press the trigger it will not release the striker. I can decock it using the button on top of the slide but it will not fire in that mode wither. I removed the striker tonight and cleaned it but no luck. Have you guys seen this before.

Thanks
Dwight

Well hopefully you have the S&W version and are covered by their lifetime warrenty, Walther is only one year. I've had several with striker/sear problems usually resulting in doubling. Either way you're best off to contact S&W and see if they will send you a pick up tag for repair.

Smith wants it back ASAP

They are sending me a box and shipping labels. I did use the phrase "I feel this firearm is unsafe in its current condition"

But that is the truth

Regular (AS) P99, right?

Let S&W (Walther America) handle it. If something went wrong with the sear housing block, they replace the block. (It's a $100 assembly, too.)

Disassembly of the sear block is considered a factory-only procedure.

Anyway, aside from replacing the wrong dimension trigger bar guide to correct a DA mode light-strike issue (it's a post-type guide except in the newest guns) or a broken trigger return spring, even armorers are told not to disassemble the sear housing blocks.

It hasn't been unknown for S&W to extend a helping hand to Walther P99 customers when some problems have occurred after the 1-year Walther warranty period passed.

Being the Walther importer (at least until the agreement expires in 2013, I think it is), they have an interest in trying to help keep Walther customers happy and willing to buy more Walther firearms. My understanding when I've asked about it is that S&W simply eats the cost as a customer good will expense.

I thought it was a nice thing to see that the newest Walther model being imported, the PPQ, is being offered with a limited lifetime warranty for American purchasers. ;)
