Default 645 Question

Hello,
New here, but have been doing some digging. I have a 645 and the right side decocker/safety lever is missing. I don't think I can get this part anymore. The weapon still seems functional without it. Any ideas on substitutions from other pistols. I've been searching the various auction sites and S&W slides do show up sometimes. Never see much in the way of 645 parts though.

Those that have 645s tend to hang on to them.

I don't own any 2nd Gens but I am pretty sure I have read that you can use the 3rd Gen decockers on the 2nd Gen guns.

Have you tried this company: Firearm Parts & Accessories | Military Surplus | Numrich Gun Parts

You might try contacting S&W Customer Service/Parts. Their toll free number is 1-800-331-0852.

Hi Radio. You can use the 4506 decocker if needed, but if you can get an original all you need is some locktite on that screw and it will hold indefinitely. This was a known issue with these.

Thanks for the leads. Parts are pretty scarce for this thing. Numrich doesn't seem to have it. I'll keep digging. And yes, this is a pretty cool old hunk of Stainless Steel. I just need to find a 38' Scarab KV to go with it.

Jack First is another parts place you might check, also might try Novaks. To use the 4506 lever you will need the whole decocker body, runs about $80.

You might want to try DAA and see if you can get a slide lever which IPSC shooters use on open division guns. Just a thought.

I ended up buying a 5906 parts lot off eBay, that had the complete safety. I like then later safety better because there's no screw head there. I am fairly sure it will fit. Now, all I need is one more lousy stock screw. Midway has been backordered since November. Keep an eye on the for trade/sale forum soon for 5906 parts.

Thanks to everyone one here for all the advice and knowledge. I am looking forward to getting this weapon back in action again.

The safety bodies for the 5906 and 4506 do not share the same part number - this might not work.

The 5900/4000 safety is narrower than a 4500/1000, it won't reach the other side far enough to install the lever.

Well, darn. It does appear that if I did a little filing, I could get it to go. There's pretty thick piece of meat under the left lever, that if reduced would allow it to work. There's also a groove that I believe engages one of the decocker levers that needs to be widened.

I would never contemplate doing this if I could find the parts.

Default S&W Parts

I seem to get in trouble when I post links, but I'll take my chances this time. This gentleman has a very, very large inventory of S&W parts. If you call S&W and they don't have the part, they direct you to him. Good luck.

There is a gentleman on the forum who goes by 'BMCM' who has done pretty much everything there is to do in the way of modifying S&W semi autos. If you PM him with your problem he will more than likely know the best route to take.
