Default Smith and Wesson still honors recall on 1076

Took my 10mm to the range and a buddy was trying it out. He asked me if I had two dots around the decocker from the recall. I didn't see any markings so decided to call S&W today about the recall and they said they would send me a fedex label.

Pretty nice that a company still stands behind their products after it's been out of production for so long.

Its good to see S&W still standing behind their products on that. Most of the decocker models I have seen lately did not have the dots.

I sent in my brothers in maybe 2 years back to have the recall done. They said they did the recall, but didn't add the dots. I bought mine maybe around 1996 or so and mine had the dots when I bought it.

Keep your fingers crossed that they don't send you an M&P back!

There's no way I would send a gun like that through Fedex/UPS/USPS where it could potentially be lost or stolen. They're just too hard to replace. A Glock or something? Sure. A 35 year old rare, out-of-production pistol? No.

I'd just live with it pre-recall.

This is great to hear...shopping for a 1076 without the mag safety and in great shape...don't want to worry so much if it had the recall or not. Will just send it in for the sonic cleaning and recall work.

OP, just FYI but I’ve seen some reports in recent years that frame-mounted decocker pistols which underwent the Recall “fix” were returned to their owners without the punch marks (or “dots”) being applied to the frame beneath the black tab of the decocking lever.

If that’s true, I would certainly call S&W first and ask them to run the serial # to verify whether or not your particular decocker pistol ever received the Recall work. If you’ve had it for more than a decade, probably not. But if it were a new-to-me decocking pistol bought off GB or at a LGS, I’d definitely call first to check (or maybe double-check) before shipping it back.

I sent my brothers 1076 in that didn't have marks and they returned it without the marks and said they did indeed do the recall. This was probably 4-5 years ago.

Plus, not all of the 1076 needed to be fixed. They made many after the recall sans issue.
