Default 4014 Followed Me Home...

Greetings!

I found a 95%+ 4014 today for $349 at the LGS. It came with just one mag (8 round, flat bottom) and no box or papers. How did I do?

After purchase, I found out that S&W made only 550 or so of this model right while I was in high school. No MIM or other stupid stuff. Kinda cool!

It will probably enter my EDC rotation, especially after tracking down a couple extra mags. Would these be sighted for the original 180 gr loading?

There is something special about these 3rd Gen S&Ws. I fondled a .40 M&P Compact at the same time, and it seemed like a joke compared to the 4014. I can't wait to hit the range...

Take Care,

Hunter

In my opinion, you did very good. The 4014 and 4040PD are on my wish list. If you have doubts, send it to Kentucky. Enjoy it.

Hi kcode!

I handled a nice condition 4040pd over Christmas at Gary's Gun Shop in Sioux Falls, SD. They had it at $499. I like the front taper on the 4040PD and the 3913LS/NL series. Being a lefty, the thing that sold me on the 4014 right away was the factory ambi-safety, something that would have to be done to an 4040PD for EDC. The forged parts are a plus as well. I may have to have a spurred hammer fitted some in the future.

You did very well, indeed!

As for shooting, mine shoots pretty good. I can't explain the two strays . . . someone must have hit my arm . . . yeah, I'll go with that.

Now get out there and find a 4013. The pair makes excellent Salt & Pepper.

Hunter, thanks for the heads up on the 4040. According to his web site inventory, they still have it. I've requested info on it and pics.

I'm left handed also, but the single side safety doesn't bother me much, gotten used to it on a CS45 and a 3913LS. A 1911 single safety is a different story.

Hunter,

you hit the jackpot! I have a 4014 that I found on an auction site last year, and got it LNIB with 2 factory magazines for $375. It is now my every day carry, its a great shooter, and everyone who sees it wants to know how to get one!

I'll post some photos of mine later along with an IWB holster I had made for it that is AWESOME. Its a custom holster by Tim Thurner of TT Gunleather. Tim has a blank for the 4014 and mine fit the holster like it was born in it. A friend who has several high end 1911's, and several Rosen and Sparks holsters, now swears by TT GUnleather and gave me the lead on it. I could not be happier to recommend TT. And I have no vested interest in their company (other than sharing the same first name with the owner).

There is also a neat letter that one of the member sent me a copy of, which is from S&W talking about the 4014. I'll see if I can find a copy to email you. Denver Dick may be the guy who gave it to me.

Congrats on the 4014. I love mine. I'm trying to negotiate to buy a 3914 TSW but actually have really come to prefer the .40 platform. (although one of my all time favorite pistols, which I also carry often, is the 5906). Still, if I had to choose my favorite 3rd gens it would be the 4014 and the Shorty 40.

Tim

Yeah, Tim, I think I'm the guy. Here's a copy of my letter without the addressee line.

As Roy writes in the letter, I hope this will be helpful to you, Hunter.

Here's my 4014 (and one of it's 3rd gen safe mates a 5906) and the TT Gunleather holster Tim Thurner made for the 4014.

The 4014 also rides nicely in the Galco cop model OWB holster that I normally use the 5906 in.

I've been shooting the Winchester Supreme Elite 180 gr. JHP's and they work very well in the 4014:

Thumbs up

Congrats,
I Got a 4014 last year, NIB for $500.00 with box and all the goodies. I thought it was a good deal considering what ya get for 5 bills now days.
I thought that 200 was too much for a mod 28 a few years ago. Try and find one for that price now. I think you did very well, shoot it and enjoy.
I have an attached pic of my 4014, 4053 and 4536 enclosed.

Illwind:

nice guns! I'd buy another 4014 NIB at $500, heck, every 4014 I could find NIB at $500!

Try buying anything else like that today in current production new. Of course there is basically only one option- a SIG. You're looking at $900 or so for a similar gun.
