Default My new to me 4006 pistol.

It's been a while since I stopped by and put up a post, so I figured I should post my newest addition to the collection. I just picked this up on GunBroker. It's my first .40 cal pistol. I already have a 669 and a 5906 so this one will fit right in. Since I own the other two it'll be very familiar in function. All three pistol have Ambidextrious de-cockers so I can continue to practice both Left & Right handed without a handicap. Another feature I prefer is the adjustable rear sight. This one's really clean. I'm looking forward to get it in my hands.
So what do you think?

Regards,
Gregory

I had one just like that one until last year when I traded it for an immaculate Model 13-3 with a 3.0 inch barrel. I really enjoyed the 4006, a bit heavy, but very accurate and reliable.

Best of luck,

Dave

Beautiful 4006! Feels great in the hand. I haven't shot mine yet so I can't say much for that, but they feel so solid!

WOW! What a beauty! Lost out on one on GB just recently that had CT grips and a bunch of extra mags. It went for more than I could scrape up, but I'm still on the hunt for one of my own. Guess I will just have to be patient and keep my eyes peeled.

Thanks for the positive comments. It makes me feel like I made a good choice after all. Since it's my first .40 cal I wasn't too sure which way to go with one. I'm feeling better now.

I recently purchased a 4006TSW and a 4003TSW both in excellent condition. Both came with curved backstrap grips. Changed out the 03 to straight and left the 06 curved. Now I can decide which I like best LOL!

Seriously, don't regret it. You just bought the gun that brought the .40 into the mainstream.

You're gonna love it.

Very nice--looks to be in superb condition. I've been keeping an eye out for one of these myself. Seems like this particular model is highly desirable and commanding a premium right now.

Gearchecker, good photos of a great pistol. I'm another new 4006 owner, and while I forced myself to reserve judgment during the initial get-acquainted period, I am now completely won over by the gun's excellent design and feel.

Got to admit: as a wheelgun guy, I was surprised by the unexpectedly warm regard I developed for this gun. I suspect the appeal lies in the fact that it is all steel and feels heavier than its size led me to to expect. I prefer heavier guns for shooting, though I might feel differently if I had to lug one around on a belt all day.

One of the reasons I picked the 4006 was the weight. My 5906 is a steel pistol and the weight really seems to tame down the 9mm round to nearly nothing as far as recoil goes. For the most part I'm a wheelgunner too. Another advantage is that the 4006 will fit in the same holster as my 5906. That'll save me a few buck too. At this time the pistol is still at my FFL's shop. It's a 2 hour drive each way for me to get down to him so I combine my trips down to see him as often as I can. I have a target rifle coming in on 2/3, so I'll pick them both up at the same time.
Then the fun begins.

I've discovered that everybody that's owned a 4006 really likes them. Looks like I picked a winner this time.
Thanks for the assurances that I picked a winner.

Regards,
Gregory

Default Prized possession!

I've had my 4006 since 1995... With several firearms bought and sold since then, still my best shooting and overall favorite firearm! You'll have no regrets with this beauty!

I picked a 4006 for the weight as well. It tames the .40 to the point that it's no different than shooting a hot 9mm out of a typical alloy-framed pistol. Previously I'd tried various rental polymer .40s, and I found that they all torqued too much and/or abraded my trigger finger during recoil. The overall excellence of the all-metal Smiths was a deciding factor as well.

I have a very good Black Tex Shoemaker pancake holster. The pistol is large enough that trying to carry it totally concealed would be very uncomfortable. My 5906 fits it perfectly as well.
I'm tall and pretty thin, so concealing is difficult without printing, unless it's a smaller framed pistol.
So I wear it in an open carry condition. I have a couple other pistols that I prefer to open carry as well. Living in Idaho and traveling in Washington is easier because both states allow open carry.
I have my concealed licenses in both states so I'm legal when I do carry concealed.

regards,
Gearchecker

Here's the first SW Auto in my collection. Found it two weeks ago at my favorite local gun shop. It was traded in that morning, and I walked out with it in the afternoon. It was a no brainer to spend just under 500 for a LNIB twenty year old 4006. I had been looking for an earlier model .40, but this will be well loved. Optional NS and one of the early plastic cases I believe as well.

Enjoy.

davegarage,
Great find. Looks like we have similar taste in pistols.
The condition your pistol is awesome.
So we both picked the same pistol for our first 40 cal.
It's turned out to be a good choice for me. I shot it this past weekend and it handled very nicely. Looks like I'll be keeping this one.

Regards,
Gregory

I would like to find a retired csp 4006 with the flying wheel on the side. If you know of one or have one for sale let me know. This request is non-expiring...

Sweet. I haven't seen many 4006's with adjustable sights.
