Model 59 Serial numbering question
Looks like the Model 59's follow a similar serial numbering pattern to the Model 39's, were they produced concurrently? Would an "A" prefix 59 have the same DOB as a similar 39? Are they all 59's, or is there a 59-1 or 59-2 - or did they just transition to the Gen 3 5900 series pistols?
What would the DOB be for a 59 numbered A3452XX?

can say for the later guns, but during the time frame they were made they were numbered with an A just like the 39 and 41. don't think they were in the same serial blocks. one of the more knowledgble guys will have you help you with that. carrried one of the earlier ones for several years.

I have always understood that 59's were numbered within the 39-2 numbers, so dating either model is straightforward. A 59 numbered A345XXX would probably have shipped in early 1977.
There was never a significant enough engineering change to the Model 59 to merit a 59-1 or -2 designation. The 59 evolved into the second generation 459, 559, and 659 models.

The Model 39-2, 41, 52-2, and 59 are all in the same SN range. The Model 59 started at around A170000. The last Model 59 I've seen is in the early A700XXX range after being replaced by the 459/559/659. The last 39-2 according to the SCSW is A747148 in 1983 when replaced by the 439. The only 1st gens produced longer was were the 52-2 (ended in the 90's I believe) and the Model 41 which I believe is still made today.

My own personal value on a 559 would be in the $400.00 ballpark figure. Maybe as high as $500.00 if box and all original pieces are with it and it has a low count fired amount as well.

I paid too much for it then but I fell in love the minute I put it in my hand. I was looking for a 3rd gen as I knew they were $350 or less. This is what happens when you go to the gun show and buy with no research, but I really love it and it will most likely never leave my ownership. It looks as if it just came out of the box and was never fired. Thanks for the answer though.

I thought the 59 was basically the 39 in double-stack configuration. Why an engineering change on one but not the other? Or is the 59 the DS version of the 39-2?
