Default New to me 4566

Just received a 4566 police trade from gunbroker and I'm not going to post a pic until she puts her clothes back on Everything looked ok when I field stripped it in the store except the broken trigger play spring and that annoying click grrrr! Got it home and knew what I was in for before I removed the Hogues with the grime caked around the grip outline on the frame, when I finally got them off I was amazed at how filthy the drawbar, sear etc. was! I have never seen such filth in a very long time on a firearm,it was sad.Took it all apart, cleaned it up tediously and payed a visit to Numrich for new Delrin grips, play spring and rivet, sear release lever (on the way to not working) and a recoil spring for $40.Seeing that I scarfed the pistola up for $345 I figured what the hey it'll be worth it.Rifling/bore are very good too. She's sitting here in front of me gutted with just a slide and frame but she is clean!! Will post pics after the new parts arrive.I just know she's a shooter

Looking forward to your pictures and a range report. I don't think the 4566 will disappoint!

Greetings 1911heaven, if you got yours from Jensen Arms in CO than yes mine was filthy dirty also. Check out my 4566 transformation thread to see the end result. These Smiths clean up pretty good. Good luck on yours.

redleg10 yes sir I sure did! I saw that price they were selling them for and jumped all over it.I'm real suprised that a leo was actually carrying a duty weapon that was that filthy. The slide/barrel were pretty clean but when the coffee holding the Hogues on after the screws were removed (no joke) was broken loose, underneath was very very sad. When the sear came out I could not see between the legs. The firing pin was so caked I couldn't believe it was still moving.Scary stuff!Looks like the gun had been "dunked" one time about 10 years ago mine was born in '97 how about yours? I will definitely check out your transformation.

j38 I'm sure it won't! I'm already thinking about turning it for another 3rd gen but I'm sure I will change my mind once I get the new parts in hand just like I did my 4516-1.They're just too dang cute together!!!

WOW! That looks brand new! Nice pistol indeed.I don't think mine will look like that when I post pics but it will look like it's been cared for.Yours looks like it just came out of the box! Amazing! It's nice to see the 4566's and other 3rd gen guns being 'rescued'

Default 4566

I bought one from Jensen Arms. I am still waiting on pics from my dealer. I can't believe the police armorer didn't schedule regular maintenance on these pistols. I check all our weapons once a year.

Thumbs up

My 4566TSW is a keeper. Makes a nice companion to my 4536.

1911 Heaven; did you take "before" pics? Regardless, looking forward to the "after" pics. Congrats and good luck with it.

The 4566TSW I bought last year for around $400 rivals some of my better 1911's for accuracy. That in itself is pretty impressive.

I did take a few before and alot of after pics after replacing the broken trigger play spring,a new recoil spring, new set of factory grips, and a serious bath it turned out to be real nice.Sear release lever was ordered too as the original is worn but I'll replace that when it goes.I always install a new recoil spring when I buy used and compare the length of the new and old and I found in this case the new one was a good 1-1/2" longer than the old.Soaked the barrel in Hoppe's to remove some copper fouling and the bore/rifling were near excellent. It was evident that this had hardly been cleaned past the slide and was carried most of it's life of course being LE trade.Hammer cock and trigger pull are smoother than any other pistol I have owned or shot in a VERY long time including my beloved 1911.The 1911 might have to step aside oops did I just say that? Enough babble here's some pics
