Snappy little thing. I find the smallest of the grip backstrap inserts to be noticeably too small to allow a good grasp.

I decided against the SW9940c after shooting a couple of them and went with the SW999c, instead.

The M&P 40c allows a better grasp on the gun, I think, with its backstrap and palmswell inserts.

If you could shoot it prior to buying it, it would probably help you decide.

I have the 99 in 45, full size 40 and compact 40. Like them all. Use the compact 40 as a CCW piece. They are a little snappy due to the light weight, but I like mine non the less.

If you enjoy shooting, including pistols chambered in .40 S&W, and the price seems good to you, it's not like the compact 99 series is a bad choice.

FWIW, the M&P 40c seems to offer a bit more in the way of controllability, for me, but that might just be due to the subtly different profile and softness of the M&P's grip inserts compared to the ones used in the 99 series.

I really like my SW999c, BTW. One of my favorite small pistols. A friend of mine bought the SW9940c, and he also likes it quite a bit. He's fired many thousands of rounds through his since buying it. The only thing he complains about is when an old wrist injury in his strong hand flares up, and the felt recoil of the SW9940c is just enough to aggravate it. His 9's don't seem to cause him that problem, though.

I agree, 9mm is easier on the hands. For price, just not willing to pass it up in .40

Default SW99c

Just picked this up today. Got one mag and a gun rug with it. Kind of looking for extra backstraps and maybe another mag. Any retailers stock these items, or has anyone had any good experiences with on line retailers? I probably can go up to SW and scout around the Factory store... Thanks for any input
