Default S&W 457

Hey everynone, just purchased my first S&W pistol, a 457 model. It has some very minor holster wear but other than that very well taken care of. I took it to the range over the weekend and it ate 100 rds of 230 FMJs and 20 rds of Speer 230g JHPs without a so much as a hiccup. It was accurate as hell and I couldn't be happier. It's original owner had it worked on since it was his duty weapon for some years and as he put it "my life depended on it".
Iv'e read some grips and holsters are interchangeable between some models and I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me which ones. Searching the web for different 457 grips or holsters does not bring many choices.

Thanks,

Hey Scuba. It's a sweet shooting pistol in every respect. I'm right in the midst of deciding on replacing my M&P compact 9mm with it as a gun that I will depend upon day in and day out. I think that you will continue to be a happy camper with your 457.

The non-value line equivalent are the 4516, 4513, 4553, etc. Grips and mags for these models should be interchangeable with the 457. Holsters may or may not depending on how well molded they are, the 457 slide in blockier than the others. By the way; nice pick up. The 457 is a great gun.

MLK18 is right, with the blockier slide holsters that fit a gun like the 4516 will most likely be an issue, especially with leather, but Nylon type holsters may offer a bit more give.

Thanks for the responses, for right now when I can carry OWB, my Sig 229 leather holsters work like a charm and I would call it a perfect fit except the molding for the ejection port is a bit off. I do have IWB Kydex for the 229 but that didn't work out so well.

As far as the grips thanks that's good info!

Congratulations, my 457 is one of my favorite guns. O.K., I have a lot of favorite guns but honestly I really like my 457. I shoot the 457 very well, actually better then my 645. And I really like my 645, it is one of my favorite guns. Right up there with my 3913 and 4040 PD, they are among my favorite guns. Humm, I am beginning to see a pattern. Seriously though, the 457 is my truck gun which means it is the one I kept with me for when the SHTF and that says a lot when I could have whatever I want at hand. Great choice!

Hey just for kicks I thought I would resuscitate this thread to say that the 457 has become one of my favorites to shoot along with my Colt Commander, got a nice 4" @ 25yards grouping with both guns last time out

my 457 fits quite nicely in my HK 2000 OWB holster....and also into my Sig 229 IWB holsters...might work for you as well.

You won't hear me complaining about my 457. It has since been retired in favor of my M&P45C, but heck of a firearm and accurate.

My S&W 457 is my favorite handgun. It is also my daily carry gun. I have many handguns to choose from but the 457 is my favorite. I use holsters made for the H&K P2000 and USP Compact for my 457. They work like they were made for the gun. I now have over 4000 flawless rounds through my 457. Not bad for a gun that cost less than $400.

I bought mine back in the 90's and after letting my brother and a friend shoot mine they both bought one.
One of the best bangs for the buck. I love mine and it is a tack driver. I have no idea how many rounds she has gobbled up but I can't remember any malfunctions what so ever.

I carried mine so much I had to refinish the slide. I refinished it in Robar's NP3. I found that Haugen Gun Leather has an awesome holster for it as well.

USMC nice looking piece!! Here is a pic of mine, not sure of exactly how old it is but since I bought it of a retired LEO and it was his service weapon, I'm sure it's got 10+ years also. I know he had the dept. gunsmith fine tune it and it shows because it's a mighty nice shooting weapon

BTW, forgot to mention, thank you for your service!

They are sweet. The only reason I let one go is the 4513 came home, and then I let that one go for a 4516, which is on my person VERY often.
