Default 5906 or an original Jericho 941?

I finally turned 21 a few months ago, and want to exercise my right to own and carry a firearm. Already took and passed my CWP class with ease, but have no gun to go along with that permit. I have been in love with the original Jericho 941's for years, and heard they are very accurate and built to last a lifetime. Yesterday, I stumbled across this Very Good-Excellent condition 5906 on gunbroker (S&W 5906 9mm SS Hogue Novak 15+1 4" VG-EX : Semi Auto Pistols at GunBroker.com) and at $399 delivered I have a huge dilemma on my hands.

The Jericho 941 is being set aside for me by a dealer up in Maine, but it was imported and is listed as being in Good condition, so I have no idea how many rounds (if any) have been fired through it, plus it will cost $460 delivered. I feel like I will kick myself in the *** if I end up taking the 5906 and risk letting my favorite gun slip away (as they are pretty hard to find), but I also want to know which gun you guys feel will be worth it in the long run? Accuracy and durability are always the two most important things for me when it comes to buying and owning rifles, but you Gurus know way more than I do about these two pistols. Bring on any and all criticisms of both guns so I know which one to buy before that 5906 auction ends tomorrow.

Thanks.

I would select the 5906,as the Jericho is currently in production and available for purchase brand new for approximately $550 depending on where one shops, with the inclusion of a factory picatinny rail unlike the first edition models.A S&W 3rd generation pistol is a discontinued model which is very unlikely to see production for civilian sale again.I myself plan to add an IMI Jericho to the collection in the future, but not before my 3rd Gen collection is flushed out beforehand.

Either way,you are purchasing a quality firearm.

I have heard some pretty "iffy" things about the Baby Desert Eagle II (newer Jericho) that MRI imports. On the other hand, this 3rd Generation 5906 has been given rave reviews for its durability and accuracy for years by former law enforcement officers. Apparently this guy selling them on gunbroker has "hundreds of very good-excellent" condition 5906's, so I'm still stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one...

Also looking at a 6906? Are either of the two S&Ws superior to the Jericho?

Default Choices

This being an S&W forum, most of the people here will have lots of S&W experience and very little contact with the other brand. The 5906 is an all stainless pistol whereas the 6906 is a stainless slide and an alloy frame with a shorter barrel. Your choice between the Smith's should be driven by how you will use your pistol. Most agree both Smith's are good guns. You could always buy one of each! Good luck in your selection.

Take a look at CDNNINVESTMENTS.COM. In their current catalog they have the 5906 in good to very good condition for $299.99, or hand select for $339.99. They are also showing the 6906 for $329.99 in good to very good condition, or hand select for $369.99. Both are listed on page 29 of their electronic catalog.

Thanks Gino: if I had the money I'd gladly get both! Class III thanks for that; I usually only shop at buds because they seem to always have what I want at the lowest price. Never heard of CDNN Investments bust at 339 hand select, I might have to go to them first before resorting to buds. I guess I can deal with the new "faults" that these newer Jerichos apparently have, and save a couple hundred as well, and get a 5906.

No, BOTH S&Ws are superior to the Jericho. I have both and would recommend both in a heart beat. The 6906 is "better" for concealed carry only because it's lighter and a bit more compact than the 5906.

If high capacity is not a concern a 3913, 3914, 3904, or 3904 are fine choices too.

Default CDNN prices

The CDNN prices are only for holders of a Federal Firearms License. If you do not have one, you can't buy a firearm from them. Many of the 5906's presently on the market are these guns from CDNN or other good wholesalers. A store price of $399 is the wholesale plus shipping plus profit to keep the doors open.

While hi-cap isn't really a deal breaker for me, I'd like the satisfaction of knowing that if a situation presented itself, I'd have more than enough round in the clip to get the job done...even though all it takes is one well-placed shot.

An original Jericho 941 came with both the 9mm and 41AE barrels and magazines in a nice case. Does this include any of that?

I would buy the CDNN Smith. Run a few hundred rounds through it and see if it works for me. Since it is out of production, it will sell. Sell it for about the same amount you paid for it and buy the Jericho. The Jericho is still being made and will be around. You are in the catbird seat.

Since the Jericho in 9mm and 41AE is no longer made and is kinda cool I would go with that.
You can get a 3rd gen smith anywhere/anytime.

Is the market really that saturated with 5906s (3rd gen)? If it is then I don't see why I shouldn't get the Jericho, because, if my question wields the "yes" answer, I can be in the market for a 5906 in three months and have no problem finding one.

I don't know if the market is "saturated" with them but I've seen a hell of a lot more 5906's then Jericho 941's.

Suffice it to say, if (and most likely WHEN) I get the Jericho, in three months I'll be able to come back and look for a good-excellent condition 5906 and not have that much of a problem?

Default butcher 1 transfer

Back on my comment on CDNN. In order to get a pistol purchased from CDNN or any other seller from another state, it must be shipped to an FFL. If you can find an FFL who will do a transfer for you for free then I guess technically you could buy the gun at the $299. price. Most people who have FFL's feel the trouble and expense they went to to get the FFL is worth something for doing the transfer. I knew an FFL who would do it for free. He was my late brother. I can't believe if I walked into the local gun store, they would perform this service for nothing but it is certainly possible that some do.
