some 356 tsw questions
just picked one up, i really like it. i have pleanty of ammo and will be reloading as well. im looking for compatable mags for the gun and also a OWB holster (im sure a similar framed model would work) ive contacted smith on this matter and all i got was "No current models are made like that gun Maybe a M-5906 , 4” bbl, or if 5 “ bbl. , M-952
i have the 3.5" 356 tsw
anyone that can point me in the right direction will help a bunch. i will be using this for idpa and action pistol matches.
thanks

Cool gun, and a pretty hot round. If you have the "shorty" version, you can use mags for the 469/669/6906 guns. You can also use holsters for the same gun. Hope this helps.

There are a couple of folks on here that are very up on them... I have 2 PC 356tsw mod. 3566s w/3.5" bbls. that are consec. SNs. I bought them new in 94 and kept them unfired till a few months ago when I shot one of them... If you have plenty of ammo hang on to it as they don't even make the brass anymore as I understand... I have 5 or 6 boxes of Fed. factory ammo and have reloaded 500 pieces of Starline brass and have 500 more pieces of new Starline brass... In my opinion they are like a 44 Mag., you can shoot some shorter rounds in them with the extractor serving as a headspacer... The Std. 115 gr. luger rds. worked fine in mine after removing the inner recoil spring, it would just lay them out with both springs... I think the 9x21s (hav not shot them) would be just fine with both springs, however after shooting either you would probably need to clean the chamber before shootong the 356s, as they are 21.5mm in length... The handloads I made and shot were loaded in 2000 and were Starline brass, Speer 124 gr. GD HPs, 6.2 gr. Universal, WSP primers and 1.14" OAL ... I only shot 50 rds., but they shot very good... Thats all I can say, but a couple of members here know a lot about them and will correct me if I am off track somewhere I think...

I don't find any brass at Midway or Starline for the 356s, I would buy some if I could find it reasonable, or even factory ammo...
Your gun looks to be the same as my 2, but the SNs are different, mine begin with PCY and yours begin with what looks to be TSW, wonder why that is...???
These I bought new on 1-28-94, I got them wholesale from a shop I worked at, the total for the 2 was $1,557.50 + $128.49 tax for a total of $1,685.99... BTW-They are consecutive SNs under 100... I just wish I had bought up more ammo or at least brass...

range report. it shot very well for the first box ive fed her. she barks to! silly corbons ears are still ringing. shot about 30+ rounds here the ones in the 8 and out were all the way at the end of the range, just checking. i say it shot well for getting used to it and the first time out with the gun.

As far as holsters go, look for leather made for the Shorty 40. Some 6906 holsters might work but they will probably run tight. The S&W PC can make you a 9mm barrel. Lots of info on these in previous forum posts.

Jacet, you stated that you would be reloading, I would do exactly that now and save the factory rounds, and I think you will too when you see the price on the factorys...lol...
356TWS or google 356TSW ammo...
Just sayin...

Ive seen the prices 50-80$ a box ext. Bad thing I've noticed is the case preside is so high most of the cases are useless. Im probably Gona get the 9x23title and trim them down. I think they are a little thicker but hold less powder.

I think I will just try the 9x21mm Fiocchi Pistol Full Metal Jacket 123 Grain 1280 fps @ +/- $19 for a 50 Round Box, I think they would work both springs fine... Of course first reload, till the brass runs out...lol...
PS-Don't forget, thicker brass requires a reduced load when you do the cut down on the 9x23s...

P/C holster for 5" 5906/356 tsw
Safariland makes some competition type holsters for these models used to be 007 model or something like that, same holster for PC 5" PPC 9 or 5" 5906, If your looking for a daily carry holster I dont know unless special order. Bob
Added a photo of the wife's holster from PPC days, this model is an Safariland 009 with paddle, normally they have about a
1" front sight cover but this has been cut off to be able to smoke the front sight in the holster. Bob

Are you looking for .356 brass?
Hello all!
I was surfing the net looking for PC .356 TSW info and stumbled into the forum so thought I should join in. I bought one of these pistols in 1994 but my serial number is also of yet another different range (SD0103) then others I've seen. Any enlightenment that could be provided on this would be appreciated. This is an impressive piece as all PC creations are and a tack-driver with the right hold, load (and shooter...)
On the brass side, I have around 1300 once-fired, clean and tumbled brass marked FC 356 TS&W and 200 more that still need tumbling. I also have around 500 Starline 9x21 cases and 100 or so G.F.L. 9mmx21 cases - all need to be cleaned and tumbled. Since I quite reloading around 2000 these have been sitting on my back shelf ever since. Excellent condition, no splits or bulges. In addition I have about 400 new Winchester 9x23 primed cases and 100+ once-fired cases from back in the day when I loaded 9mm Largo for my Astra 400.
I'm probably not going to get back into reloading at this point in my life and could part with some or all of this for a reasonable price so make me an offer if you're interested.

Serial number
The SD serial number is for Stocking Dealer. Horton, and several other dealers were getting special run guns made for them and the small dealers started raising cane. So, S&W build a SD gun, in 9, 356, and 40. I don't know the numbers, but I would guess yours is a low production number and well worth hanging on too

The Stocking Dealer 9/356/40 specials and the 356 Compacts are the only steel framed guns based on the 6900 series frame. The SDs' were very limited, had a unique 4.25" slide do use the same grips/mags as the 6900/4000TSW compacts/Shorty-Fortys. The SD356 is the rarest about 110 made, there were 204 SD40s'. My SD356 and 356 compact will fire and cycle 9x19 ammo fine if I remove the inner recoil spring, I always clean the chamber well afterwards.

Well actually,
After spending quite some time with "Wesman" a few weeks ago and discussing these at length.
The steel framed PC guns of this style were all based on the .40 size frame.
